WELCOME to Staten Eatery, a taste of New York right here in the heart of Wellington. Located on the corner of Willis and Dixon streets, this Wellington restaurant was named after our neighbours and world explorer, Abel Tasman. When Tasman first laid eyes on our shores he declared “Statenland” the land that we now call New Zealand.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Came here with as had a first table discount voucher. I ordered the NYC strip medium rare that would have cost $45. It came out severely over cooked and chewy I couldn’t enjoy it. The mash potato on both dishes were lumpy as heck with a whole half potato in the mash. It stated on the menu it was creamy and smooth. Took 50 minutes to arrive. The pork ribs were really juicy and tender so that was okay and the fried chicken was really tender and flavoursome. But Staff were awesome and friendly and had great customer service

Do not order the fish n chips. Not fresh, was rubbery and reminded me of the boxed frozen stuff mum use to cook up in the 80s. Yuck.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had breakfast at Staten during our stay at the Mercure next door. As a group of seven with 4 kids under the age of five, we were always going to be a bit noisy and chaotic but we couldn't have asked for better service. The staff were INCREDIBLY accommodating, providing food for the kids quickly, giving us marshmallows to keep them happy, setting up a colouring station for them, and taking genuine interest in what they had to say. As a sleep-deprived mother I was so very grateful. On top all of this, the food and coffee were great! Highly recommended!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This easy-to-find bar and restaurant sits on a busy corner in Wellington. Cosy and relaxed atmosphere, where the music won't drown out your conversation and the staff are friendly and efficient. Open for breakfast and dinner with early/late dining hours. Serving sizes of fresh local produce are just right and the chef is adept at providing tasty American comfort food, kinda like what you'd get at an NYC diner.
Ideal for couples, groups and even solo diners. Great range of beer on tap, 20 flavours of milkshakes (Wests syrups) and an ice cream bar (Kapati). There's even a seasonal live entertainment program with Aunty Pam's Big Apple comedy/cabaret run.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice look, wait staff friendly. Unfortunately food was very average. Fish in fish and chips was not fresh like you should get when paying restaurant prices - it was frozen fish from a box like I could have cooked at home. Coleslaw was inedible due to it being mostly dressing and in the tiniest bowl possible.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 4.5 stars, great customer service, food was amazing, super tasty and big portions. Left extremely full and sad we couldn't try the desserts or the milkshakes but gives an excuse to go back. Little slow coming out but worth the wait.

Loved it so much we ate here for all of our morning and evening meals during our weekend stay. Staff were so very accommodating and very friendly. Will return here next time we're in town.

Pork rib was very tender and juicy?
Every dishes had enough potion and tasty
Only issue was the small coleslaw comes with rib was too sweet but that was not really matter. And if you want to have meal, it is good to choose wooden chair rather than the sofa. Sofa seat’s table was low so it is suitable for drink or coffee.
Besides that, it is great place, definitely worth a visit.??
