Nau mai haere mai - Welcome!
Welcome to our Park! We are a small and friendly Park, ideally located right beside the Whanganui River and bordered by 23ha of primary bush. We offer powered and non-powered sites set amongst plenty of mature trees for shade and shelter, standard cabins that are all less than 25m from the shared toilets, showers and kitchen and our most popular accommodation, our self-contained Kiwi Cottage.
You really can do it ALL from here - located in the heart of the spectacular Central Plateau, Taumarunui Holiday Park is the ideal base for all the many activities this largely untamed wilderness offers:
Start/end point of the renowned Forgotten World Highway; ride the rails with Forgotten World Adventures Rail Carts; canoe/kayak the mighty Whanganui River on our waka (canoes); walk the must-do Tongariro Crossing and lots of other great walks; fish in some of the world’s best freshwater fishing spots; cycle through the ancient forests of the Timber Trail; mountain and motor biking on the 42nd traverse; only 40mins from Tongariro National Park and the Whakapapa Snowfield; and much, much more ......
We are in the centre of an outdoor, all-seasons adventure playground!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a lovely spot next to a river. Unfortunately we stayed in the cottage. It is terrible, it smells, stains everywhere, paint splatters on floor. I cleaned the table before I put anything on it. So so sad, because it’s the only camping ground in the town.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good exploring fun for kids and a chance to dip in the river. Dog friendly and amenities are provided. It is showing signs that it needs some money spending on it to bring it back to its best. Reasonable pricing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Booked for a night, the cabins i was allocated weren't cleaned properly, found old food under the bed. Locked the cabin doors and windows to head into town to find the door open when i returned, as well as a window that cannot be closed permanently wide open in which my husband drilled shut. The cabins are easy to break into with a card if the doors not deadbolt locked. Wasn't happy with the service i got even with this being the cheapest accomodation. We as a family were concerned for our kids safety as we're not familiar with the area. I've stayed here in the past, before the park was sold to new owners. I won't be staying here again and definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone. A lot of work needs to be done, including cleaning regularly and daily!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place was easy to find. When I got to the main gate I head to make a phone call to check in. There was plenty of room around the campsite. The kitchen and bathroom block were small. No lounge area to relax in.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've discovered a hidden gem midway between Hamilton and Whanganui. It is run by a patient, kind, caring, rare diamond!
I phoned during a busy holiday time and she assured me that she would reserve the cottage for me, even though I was two hours away. True to her word, she did.
The cottage is delightful: homely, simply furnished and "expandable". It was spotlessly clean, and had most of the things that would be needed by a group of five or so.
There are heaps of fun, natural things for any healthy family to enjoy (as well as Internet!).
When I came to book out, I was aware that the manager had been vaguely aware of my movements the previous day. I
am appreciative of this: there is always an anxiety for sole travellers who may have trouble with no one who knows. She is lovely. I felt safe yet private.
I will be back.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really friendly and welcoming campsite, in beautiful surroundings. Well stocked kitchen and outside seating and BBQ area, as well as a kids play area. Rustic with alot of character and charm. All amenities clean and tidy. Highly recommended for a shorter or longer stay.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My partner and I spent 5 great nights at the Taumarunui Holiday Park in early January this year. We came here for trout fishing and to enjoy the vibe of this holiday park. It's well worth the drive from Auckland for us.
We had a fantastic time and can't recommend the holiday park highly enough. We stayed in one of the 4 bed cabins.
I've been coming to Taumarunui Holiday Park for over 12 years and it's as great as ever.
Fiona, the host, was absolutely lovely - very friendly and super-helpful. What a great host and person she is.
Something I've always enjoyed about this holiday park - and this stay was no exception - is that you get a chance to meet and chat with other visitors, including in the shared kitchen. I love that social aspect of this place - and usually come away having made new friends and people to keep in touch with in future. We spent one night here sharing drinks and food with some lovely visitors from Wellington and have ended up swapping contact details.
Everything about our stay here was top-notch. I've just booked for another weekend in early February - can't wait to get back here!
Thanks so much Fiona and the rest of the Taumarunui Holiday Park team - we love what you do and will be coming back here again and again!
