Relax after a day of activities in Tongariro National Park with the scenic beauty found at Whakapapa Holiday Park.
About Whakapapa Holiday Park
The Tongariro National Park is centred around the three peaks of Tongariro i.e. Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu.
A tuku (an act of customary lore) of the mountain peaks was made in 1887 by Ngāti Tūwharetoa Chief Horonuku te Heuheu Tukino IV to the Crown, at the time Queen Victoria of England. The intent of the tuku was to enter into a partnership with the Crown to ensure the continued protection of Tongariro. Entering the summit area (peaks) is prohibited.
The mountains of Tongariro is Aotearoa’ (New Zealand’s) most continuously active volcanic area with a frequency of eruptions, a highly explosive nature, and active vents.
Another outstanding natural feature of the area is the unusual interplay of volcanic and glacial processes on Ruapehu. It’s Crater Lake is one of only two of its type in the world where magma and glacial melt-water interact to give rise to spectacular eruptions. To really experience the power and beauty of these amazing volcanic wonders, you just have to be here!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stayed in our campervan.
Reasonable price. Receptionist so nice and helpful.
Had to bring an extra car back on 2nd night as a friend got injured on the crossing but they let us park it at the site.
Good location.
Facilities a bit dated but all functional.
Nice river at the bottom.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We really enjoyed our stay at Whakapapa Holiday Park. We were lucky because the place wasn't busy so it felt very quiet and relaxing. It's a very green place and we had a very private site surrounded by trees and bush. The reception lady welcomed us friendly and gave us all the necessary information. We will be back! Thank you

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best little cabin in the woods at Whakapapa Holiday Park ? Utterly relaxing, a special place in the heart of Whakapapa Village in Tongariro National Park. Such a beautiful setting and inspiring place to stay as close to nature as you can get. Clean facilities, surrounded by the soothing sound of the flowing mountain stream, lots of birdsong and you get to wake up the many world-class walks and hikes right at your doorstep. The food truck serves delicious food and great coffee. Reception with shop has range of basic food, ice cream and necessities available. Tania and Toni are amazing hosts, highly recommend.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Awesome place to camp. Stayed here to do the Tongariro Circuit and couldn't have picked a better spot. For a small fee we could leave our campervan during our hike, and the bus left from the campground, so that was perfect. Highly recommended.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stayed a night before and after completing the Northern Circuit. Great facilities and the ladies were very lovely to me. I loved my stay and recommend it to anyone who is looking for basic, comfortable accommodation that sits along a beautiful stream.
Leave your city attitudes/stressors behind and enjoy your stay :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Excellent stay. Friendly staff. Easy check-in. Towels and more available at reception. Close to great hikes. In the summer there is a little coffee bar that also sells toasties but we were more than happy to use the ample space (like 10 separate stove tops) to prepare our food. Great stay in our clean and comfortable cabin. Would definitely stay again.
