★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The administration staff are unprepared and unorganised. I needed to register my newborn online and in twice in person as they lost the information. Once I went there and they left me waiting in the car with my newborn for one hour because they forgot to call me and the cherry on the top was that when I saw the doctor she gave me a lecture because I was late ?. The staff didn’t even apologised.
I could go on and on about their unprofessional behaviour. I am still registered there because I really like the Dr who looks after my family.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ i tried getting information about my appointment & about doctors orders for a blood test & explained I am not from new zealand and don’t have much experience with the health system in new zealand and the receptionist was extremely unhelpful & disrespectful. i also had to cal her because this information wasn’t communicated correctly from the doctor. when I made my first appointment the receptionist on the phone also was very inpatient and she sounded like she wasn’t keen on helping me or answering any questions.
the doctors should feel like a safe place where you are allowed to ask questions and it certainly doesn’t feel like that. horrible experience thanks for that I feel very disappointed.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our Doctor is 10 stars so this review is in no way a reflection of her, but this management and practice is a shambles. One of the receptionists in particular is extremely rude and doesn’t seem to understand part of their role is to care and solve problems. Instead they act as a block. The charge for adults enrolled is $65.50. Often you end up waiting so long the receptionists have left and when you have southern cross they’ll pay up to $65. Then we are getting chased by email for payments of 50 cents and if we don’t pay the 50 cents they’re saying they’ll charge a $5 statement fee. Then when we went to pay the two 50 cent amounts for two different patients we were told we couldn’t do it in one transaction, so had to do two 50 cent transactions. Absolutely ridiculous. Why don’t they just make the charge $65?! Surely they know Southern Cross cap at $65 and it would make it a whole lot easier for everyone. The receptionists also block repeat prescriptions more than any practice we’ve ever enrolled with, saying you have to see the doctor for a repeat, but the doctor is so busy you have to wait weeks before an appointment.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Reception staff are rude and impatient when dealing with them in person or on the phone. I have been a Napier patient for almost 30 years and since moving to Fred Thomas the service has dramatically worsened; urgent prescription requests (which we pay extra for!) were not actioned within the agreed timeframe. Will be moving to a new GP after my experience on the phone today with the reception person who was incredibly rude and implied that they were not going to help me because I called back. Disgusted.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is a shambles. Booked my son an appointment only to turn up and be told there was a mistake and he had been double booked. Then they re made an appointment for later in the day. He went back called to say he had arrived - then got a phone call from the doctor while sitting in his car in the car park. Doctor said she couldn’t help over the phone but needed to come in person ?? Which is exactly what he tried to do. He then came home and was very confused (16yr old boy) so I rang the practice and asked what was going on. Only to be told he was actually in with the doctor as we were speaking ! But he was in fact at home with me - Receptionist was so rude when I explained he was not in with the doctor he was sitting with me at home.
He desperately needed to be seen by a doctor so we ended up going to A&E and waiting 3 hours so he could actually be seen. Appalling!
Also been billed $5 for statement fee for outstanding balance of 50c.

I had one appointment on 30 of March and the medicine did not work . Two weeks later I called the reception and asked to have a phone appointment . I spoke with the doctor and the medicine was changed resolving the issue .
Then on 20/04 I received a billing for the same consultation.
I had spoken with the person in charge. She was avoiding to give me an straight answer and creating very unreasonable answers:
Doctors don`t make mistakes. She wrote that was a normal consultation
I cannot confirm with the doctor this issue because she is on leave.
We don`t email doctors on leave to confirm patients requests.
I cannot do anything.
The normal time for consulting warranty is only 7 days!
I can tell that I am totally disappointed with the company.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Extremely hard working team of medical professionals and general staff. Always prompt response to messages left for nurses, and fast, efficient handling of prescription repeat requests. Thorough assessing of symptoms by phone when necessary. A very busy surgery carrying large patient loads, yet providing a wide range of services under challenging circumstances.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Been a patient with Fred Thomas for 3 years now. There has been ups and downs over the years but my most recent visit was excellent!
Phone booking was easy. The reception staff was personable and offered several appointment options to fit my schedule.
The wait-in-car-before-consultation system, removed the concerns of being in an overcrowded waiting room.
Consultation was on time and Doctor Kate made me feel so at ease and heard.
Thank you Fred Thomas team! Keep up the good work :)
