Our Story
The Thirsty Weta is your Local Otorohanga!
We are a vibrant wine bar and eatery, offering excellent service. The Thirsty Weta offers a full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages with a wide range of local wines and beers. We have a second-to-none menu with homemade meals running all day and night. We offer hearty meals, quick bites and even takeaway pizzas — no matter who you are, we have something for you, for the young and young at heart.
Started by our founders Lisa and Troy Leather, the Weta has remained the local place-to-be for over 10 years. We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service, and with many events throughout the year including comedy, live music, and quiz nights, we make sure to keep everyone entertained.

β β β β β Gigantic meals served here. Very pleasant staff. We visited on our way through to Auckland airport one evening for coffee. Made very welcome. There is also a bar here. Can get very busy.

β β β β β We were not impressed with the pizza here. It was lacking taste and the chicken reminded me of the stuff you buy in cans. The reviews for this place were generally good so we expected more, but perhaps pizza is just a weak point. However, the staff were friendly and service was good - only waited 10-15 minutes for our food. Just avoid the pizza maybe.

β β β β β This is worth the drive from Waitomo (the local places have gone done a bit in quality). Helpful staff, fun place to eat, and great atmosphere.
We did a impromptu birthday dinner and the staff were super helpful and made it an enjoyable experience. thank you.
