We had a lovely stay at Patrick's hidden paradise with lot's of native birds in the fruity garden and a wonderful day in Te Urewera NP. Don't miss out Lou's Lookout and the waterfalls.

We had a wonderful stay here over Christmas. Patrick is such a great host, providing us with loads of information and then leaving us to ourselves. Even our Christmas Day blocked drain repair was no trouble! The unit is very cosy and surrounded by an amazing orchard with a beautiful view of Lake Whakamarino. A hidden treasure!

Patrick was a great host who was super friendly. His property was stunning with a variety of different fruit trees. He allows you to take some fruit when it's ripe aswell. The place was tidy, warm and has everything you need.

It would be very hard to find fault with the Tuai Suite. Patrick, The owner, makes it very clear from the start that he does expect you to have a good stay and that he is prepared to put him self out to make sure this is the case. The compact accommodation provides every facility you could ask for, comfortable furniture, very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, huge barbecue and lots of outdoor space to sit around in the garden or wonder around through the fruit trees. The big surprise is the 50 inch TV with eight speaker surroundsound! (Do bring your own DVD with you unless you’re a fan of science fiction!) We stayed for three nights and could easily have stayed longer, there are lots of interesting walks in the area and plenty of opportunities for photography and birdwatching. Of course we would love to go back if only to take a long stick and get that elusive avocado that was hanging just out of reach.

Not luxury 5 star, this is about value and welcome. A lovely small self contained place, with what is needed and great view. Host Patrick is keen to help and share whatever produce is ready in his orchard. Nice colourful art and comfy bed, clean and tidy too.

The Tuai Suite was blissful, serene, and convenient for those touring Lake Waikaremoana. I booked last minute online, and Patrick, the owner, was prompt and ready at check-in. He is the reason this place is so great! He is very helpful. He gave me tons of recommendations for Lake Waikaremoana day hikes. I did all of hikes he recommended, which were all beautiful. Another perk of this place is that there is a beautiful orchard that Patrick maintains and it is just gorgeous. He gave me a tour of the orchard. I even got to try a Tangelo, and a took a plum for take away! He had a few ripe avocados as well. I used some of his rosemary and thyme for breakfast the next day. And I placed some of the bubble gum magnolia flowers in my car as a freshener! The views from the private deck are very nice. The Suite had a comfortable bed, and he has curtains everywhere for people who need pitch black when they sleep (me!). The kitchen had everything I needed to cook and clean. There is also a large flat screen TV. I watched some of the Winter Olympics over breakfast to start my early day. I would highly recommend this place to stay at. I am likely to stay here again.

My husband and I are SO glad I found Patrick's site and booked a stay in his suite. We only had 1 night there and regret not having more time during our visit to Napier for our friends wedding. The property is gorgeous (a photographers DREAM, my husband had fun), the private suite is adorable and perfect, and Patrick is very kind and helpful. He has a binder prepared with information about the surrounding area, maps, and recommendations. The drive out is gorgeous, maybe don't do it in a BMW Z3 convertible (oops!), due to the gravel roads. Make sure you bring bug repellent and wear socks and pants in the evening! He told me to, I didn't, and I had bites to prove it the next morning ;). I should have known better, being from Alberta, Canada. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen is perfect for preparing your meals, he has laundry on site, and there is also a BBQ to use if you'd like. We stopped at New World in Wairoa to grab groceries for our stay (1 hr out, last place to stop before Tuai), make sure you do this if you have not booked in with the Lodge in Tuai for meals. I cannot recommend this place enough! Our friends live in Napier and we've convinced them to head out here for a romantic weekend getaway.

Lovely, cosy accommodation with great views. Good location for lovely walks. Patrick, the Owner, was brilliant, making us feel right at home. The bedroom, bathroom and kitchen facilities were just right for the property and had the added benefit of a carport. We liked the availability of the garden to sit out and enjoy the views and plants. Patrick gave us some home grown fruit to take with us on our journey. Delicious! We really enjoyed our stay and the only downside was the fact that we had to leave. Wonderful, comfortable accommodation.
