Theatre is great, a real treat in the world of chains and big business. However, I don't have to drive all the way to Devonport to watch a movie and I certainly won't again. The owner is arrogant, weird, condescending and insulting. If I'd snapped back the evening would have been ruined so I bit my tongue. I don't talk to anyone like that, let alone a customer.

Cool building. Great staff. However - it smells like an old op shop x 4 in the theatre For a movie the side lots of chairs are useless as are the front 2 rows. We were in a side block, just before the film started a staff member announced anyone on the sides that would like to move to the front 2 rows go for it. So we did and my neck hurt immediately craning, we almost moved back to the side. The quality also seemed unusual, just slightly out of focus. Can only assume it’s an old projector. The crowd this place attracts are also not ideal. The people to the left of me talked through the first third of the film, the people behind me the second third of the film and some more people to the back right, the last third of the film. At least 6 people came and went through the film and the door placement means the whole left side of the theatre right down to the front rows is illuminated as they come and go. And there was no one seating patrons which caused unnecessary confusion for some. It could be argued that everyone should be able to count from 1 to 20 and figure out if 1 is on the left 20 is going to be 19 seats over to the right but they just couldn’t understand and the poor children they were hassling for being in their seats weren’t able to correct them in any helpful way. We chose this theatre thinking it would be quieter than the main players (events, Hoyts etc) but I won’t be returning.

Recent experiences include great film with small audience, niche film with tiny audience, packed house for the big bike film night, and live rock concert with a packed house. This place does it all with wines and ice cream on top.

It’s important, more than ever that we support these historic theatres’. More recently, I have overlooked the main chain cinemas’ to find escape in one of these amazing places. The Vic always has something on I want to see, the service excellent and pricing competitive. That’s what keeps me coming back….

We were in cinema 1 and it was a real treat compared to the standard chain cinemas. Art Deco surround, chandelier, and some couch seating available. The 5 year old and I had a great time. We will be back in the future! I can see cinema 1 working really well for events with guest speakers as well.
