The historic venue, the meals and the hospitality are superb. I've stayed in hotels all over the world, but this one will always rank high in my memories. Not pretentious, not superficially luxurious just down to earth and a memorable place to stay. Thank you.

Awesome hotel! We love Tom and Rose and would 100% recommend getting chatting to them at their little bar. Really awesome food, oysters and blue cod are amazing <3

Fantastic place, clean and tidy lovely bar but what makes this place are the managers Tom and Rose. You couldn't get better service anywhere and the food in the restaurant was perfect. Thanks Guys

Lovely to experience a period hotel complete with original English porcelain dishware for breakfast. Best hot breakfast ever. Not greasy and a good portion. Toast came hot and fast. Wifi good. Probably can do a little up marketing with the dine in menu. We went to Speights as menu didn't jump out at us even though based on how good the breakfast was could well have been very good. Nice friendly welcome. A nice change from your usual apartment style accommodation.

A gorgeous historic building in the heart of Invercargill City. Managers Tom and Rose are delightful hosts, passionate about the hotel, and you will not want for anything during your stay. Shown to a impressively appointed VIP Suite on the very top level of the hotel. Large king bed with good quality linen. Bathroom had a shower over bath, with superior water pressure. This century old building has been maintained to a high standard. Fascinating old pictures and maps line the walls. Lovely evening spent near the fire at the downstairs bar. Fresh Blue Cod for dinner, followed by a perfect sponge cake dessert. Rose cooked a marvelous full English breakfast in the morning. The hotel is walking distance to the CBD Shopping, and the Stewart Island Ferry shuttle picks up from here. A wonderful place to spend the night, and I look forward to returning in the future. Thanks to Tom and Rose for your warm and generous Southland hospitality

What a magnificent building, you walk through out history. Whatever stress you may bring the hostesses wipe it out in seconds, accommodating whatever need you may have! They have had so much experience in tourism that people keep going back to that hotel for years, no wonder, Rose told me on arrival, here we are a big family, and truly we felt at home. Totally felt the southern hospitality they all talk about. The room was big and super clean. It doesn’t have a lift, so careful not to take too many luggage.

Stayed at the Railway Hotel after hiking on Stewart Island, great rooms, good food, and excellent company at the bar.

I had a delicious birthday dinner with fabulous family. The host's were friendly and welcoming and made me a beautiful chocolate cake that the chef decorated with love gan and fresh strawberries. If you're coming to town it's an awesome place to stay.
