★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The lower lookout is halfway between the carpark and the upper lookout. It took us roughly an hour to get there through beautiful native forest. But you only get a distant view of the falls from there. Another 45 to 60 mins walk uphill will take you to the upper lookout which offers great panoramic views of the plains below and enables you to experience the clear waters of the stream before it takes the plunge..

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Not suitable for people with physical disabilities as the walking track is a little rugged
The track has quite a few rocks (as steps) to walk along
Track is slippery if it has rained
Closer to the lower look-out are lots of stairs to climb
Good walk if you love adventuring outdoors

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful place. Plenty of carpark spaces, and lots of hikers along the track. Takes about 45 mins to get to the lookout (one way), track is easy to walk, can be muddy in places, lots of huge boulders along the way. Make sure you have shoes with good grip and support. There are toilets at the start of the track as well. The waterfall itself is gorgeous, 153 m tall and truly stunning, it's visible from the road. Lush flora and greenery everywhere you look. Highly recommend visiting.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On a sunny day, my first impression is Wairere Falls look just like the Mountain Lu waterfall described in Li Bai's famous poem.
Sunlight streaming on Incense Stone kindles a violet smoke:
Far off I watch the waterfall plunge to the long river,
Flying waters descending straight three thousand feet,
Till I think the Milky Way has tumbled from the ninth height of Heaven.
Such a majestic view!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Wairere waterfalls is the tallest in North Island in New Zealand. It takes 2 hours to drive from Auckland to the waterfall carpark. Long Drop (toilet) is available near the car park. Plenty of space for carpark and there is a security camera installed on site. The fall is about 15 mins drive from Matamata where you can also visit Hobit. The hike is challenging as opposed to some other reviewers who say it is easy. Take about an hour just to hike to the lookout. Apparently the hike is even harder from lookout to the top of the waterfall where you can swim. A perfect hike would be in the summer to climb to the top and then hike down to swim in the many rock pools. I would definitely make another trip to the fall. 100% worth the effort.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best walks in the Waikato.
If you go, go to the top. Is a bit of effort but well worth it.
Wear sensible walking shoes or boots
