The advert had pictures of a modern, nice and spacious campervan but we got the campervan from hell. Dirty, old and small. Spiderweb in the ceiling, something brown smeared on the toilet walls and a bad smell from the toilet in the whole vehicle. Although we complained immediately to Abuzzy Motorhomes (and Motorhome Republic who we booked it through) we did not receive any help or refund. Horrible campervan, horrible service! We will never use Abuzzy Motorhomes again!

We rented a campervan from Christchurch for our 2 1/2 weeks on the South Island. Great van, and the modifications John made inside were clever and quite accommodating. Speaking of John; nicest, most genuine person I have ever met. If the world had more of him, we’d have far less problems. He ensured we had everything we needed, and went out of our way to make us feel special. John....so sorry about the keys! Make it up to Boise, Idaho, and I’ll make it up to you as best as I can! You and your family are always welcome where we are, without exception. Please avoid Jucy, and support this great company and great man. Meeting him improved me personally. Awesome conversation, and such a great and generous man.

Spent two weeks in the South Island and the campervan was comfortable and easy to drive. Everything worked as it should and the team at Abuzzy were great to deal with. Would recommend and look forward to using them again.

We just finished our 2 week vacation on the south island. We rented our van from the christchurch location. John was lovely to work with and super accommodating! He even drove us to our hotel AND after we forgot to give him back the key, drove back to our hotel to retrieve it. We really enjoyed John- even invited him and his family to visit us in Boise.

We hired an abuzzy campervan for an incredible 6 week trip around both the North and South islands. The campervan was basic but functional with a comfy bed, toilet and kitchen area. It was good value for money and they refunded our deposit within 24h of bringing the van back. New zealand is an amazing country that you will be sad to leave.

Would not recommend Abuzzy at all. Planned a 2 week trip with the family in the South Island and after having our first choice booking fall through we went with the next available van - Abuzzy - ~$2000 more expensive than our initial booking. Aside from the van our holiday was great - the only reason this review gets a 2 rather than a 1. On the first day out of Christchurch we noted surging of the engine which persisted throughout the 14 day hire period. Abuzzy gave advice on checking the fuel filter which I did roadside. Alongside the engine surging we had the smokiest diesel I have ever seen, let alone driven. I felt very sorry for the poor drivers who had to follow us. On the second day out we had several screws fall onto our persons from fittings in the cab. We spent 1/2 an hour tightening screws. Seat belts in the rear of the camper were loose and did not slide freely. One of the head rests had been damaged by a previous hire and bent into the sitting space - uncomfortable for travel and for meals with 5 of us around the table. Again this was left to us to rectify. The drain in the bathroom sink was almost completely blocked. The exterior of the van was scraped, had various cracks and a door handle fell off. Again I spent an hour with the assistance of a kindly mechanic making it usable. Finally, the advertisement specified an automatic door step. Not a major but it was specified in the advert and not present. We contacted Abuzzy several times on the trip either directly or through the booking agent and have voiced our displeasure at the end of the trip. Some form of compensation would have been nice but what we really wanted was an apology for the condition of the vehicle. After several months of dialogue, we have been offered a $500 credit if we signed a form to say we would not talk about our experience and an assurance that our concerns about the vehicle would be addressed. No apology for delivery of a vehicle in poor condition has ever been put our way, no assistance with mechanics was offered, no recompense for the state of the vehicle was offered. We are left with the strong impression Abuzzy feels it is entirely appropriate to hire out a van in substandard condition and charge top dollar for it. We also have been left feeling we are in the wrong bringing what we believe are fair concerns to their attention. The booking company has refunded us $200 although it is not really their issue. We will be very happy using the booking company again but would not recommend Abuzzy to anyone on the basis of our experiences with them over the time of our holiday and the several months of unfruitful liaison following. I am glad to hear issues we had have been addressed. But despite the owners comments below we were still rented a vehicle in substandard condition and charged full rates for it. The apologies we received were not for the state of the vehicle, just that they were sorry we felt the way we did, nor for any inconvenience caused to us, did not reflect any ownership by Abuzzy of the problems we encountered and did not offer us any correction of the problems we encountered. AA roadside assist was never mentioned and the coments below are the first time we have heard about a split air intake. That it has taken us 14 months (not 18) from the end of the hire to comment reflects the length of dialogue on this issue and the insult we felt being offered $500 as long as we didn't comment publicly on our poor experience.

Hi, just wanted to give a shout out to Mark who helped us out picking up our Toyota 4 berth campervan in Mangere, Auckland. He was extremely helpful and patient showing us how to operate the van’s equipment and threw in some stuff to make our trip more comfortable. My wife, daughters and I had the best vacation of our lives in this campervan. It drove well and had just enough space for all of us to get around comfortably and see as much of this beautiful country as we could in one week. We didn’t want to turn in the van after our time was up. Mark was engaging and gave us a warm welcome back, and even gave me a ride back to the hotel after we’d sorted out the vehicle turn in. We want to come back to New Zealand for a MONTH next time and will definitely use Abuzzy again. Thanks, Mark, for a once in a lifetime experience for us.

Would never use Abuzzy Motorhomes again. Van was old & not clean. Had to buy towels as none supplied, bedding was extra, hire of table, chairs etc also an extra (was deducted off the BOND???). Charged $3086.92 for 3 nights in November 2017- Ridiculous price. $5000.00 bond taken off my Visa & not refunded for 14 days, (less the hire of the table & chairs etc???) after the Van was returned. Complaint laid & trying to re-coop some of our money through Motorhomes Republic at present. All up - a bad experience all round! Stars ZERO! Had to press ONE star to post this review! Update - Another year, another camper van trip - not with Abuzzy, but with Maui. Maui total cost for a new van less than a year old $1902.90 for 5 days. No refund from Abuzzy as we wouldn't sign a gagging form. As for their last paragraph in their response - disgusted.
