At Active Outdoor Adventures, we offer affordable, quality, public and private or custom transportation services across the entire Tongariro National Park area at reasonable prices. We know that in today’s world, time is money. That’s why we do our best to get you wherever you’re going on time, every time.
Active Outdoor Adventures has been providing transportation services to the local area since 2017. In 2020 when Covid hit the tourism industry we decided to come together with other operators not only to make it viable for us but also to deliver more experiences to you.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We booked the shuttle service to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing with drop off service (7:15a) at Mangatapopo Carpark and pick up service (3:30p) at Ketetahi Carpark. The staff were super friendly, punctual, and gave a brief history of the mountains. At the end of the hike they provided cold beers or water, which is super refreshing after a 19.4 km hike! Additionally, a member in one of their other hike shuttles broke their ankle and they were able to help them to medical service. I thought that was very reassuring!
P.S. As of 12/2018, google maps does not provide the accurate map point. Look on the right side of road for a banner/sign for the parking lot.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really friendly and personal staff that gave us tips and suggestions in the morning and told us about the hike from their perspective. When we got down we were greeted with a cold drink which was wonderful!
Close to the crossing as well.
These guys will make your trip perfect!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ These guys were awesome! They were very welcoming, friendly and helpful! We camped at their space, and they made sure we had everything we needed! They lent us walking poles for the Tongariro crossing, and even had a celebratory beer waiting for us in the shuttle bus when we finished! They also told us some of the history and local knowledge of the area! Book with these guys for a personal experience!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After a great morning pickup shuttle and some helpful facts about the Tongariro Crossing, I was more than satisfied with our experience. What sets them apart is that my friend and I were late to the last shuttle due to a holdup during the trek. They STILL picked us up promptly and were still very friendly and accomodating (still with a beverage). While I wouldn’t recommend being late like we were, my friend and I were extremely grateful. Thank you James and Active Outdoor Adventures!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After staying in their camping facilities (which were basic but cheap) the shuttle arrived on time in the morning, the staff were super friendly and organised. Pick up was just as easy (the reviews about the beers after the hike are true!). Would highly recommend this shuttle service!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ wonderful cheerful drivers & excellent service. I called the day before to book & the lady was super helpful in explaining how the drop-off/pick-up worked. I ordered return tickets via their website and parked for free at their campsite/office. This meant I didn't need to buy a parking ticket at the public carpark ($35 NZD for all day) (added bonus!)
We were dropped off at the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing track & then picked up at the end. We were then driven back to our car park spot. Cannot fault the service - thank you & would highly recommend :)

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best service of this type we have ever received. We booked with them through our hotel operator (same price as direct). They were timely, helpful, genuinely friendly and their shuttle bus was clean and in good shape. "Sandy" the morning driver started by providing an on-point safety briefing and told us a lot of interesting cultural info about the proud Maori people. Later in the day we were running late on our hike and when we called the provided number the call was answered promptly and she put us at ease that shuttle would be waiting for us when we came off the trail. We had the pleasure of meeting James who unexpectedly offered us cold beverages and also was very friendly with conversation and more interesting info about Maori history and culture. Use these lovely people for your trail access needs!
