About Bluebridge Cook Strait Ferries - Wellington

On board with sustainability

Our newest vessel - The Straitsman, was chosen partly because of its ‘green features.’ As the most modern, ship operating on Cook Strait it operates a variety of technologies to ensure maximum efficiency such as utilising waste energy from the engines to heat water, it is also fitted with a heat recovery wheel which is used to help produce heat, in the winter.

Fuel efficiency is a priority across the fleet, with the ships operating on a schedule that ensures optimal sensible fuel usage and therefore reduces emissions.

We use an environmentally approved paint system on the hulls of our vessels that is designed to reduce drag through the water and save fuel.

We offer recycling (paper, glass and plastics) on board for both passengers and staff – and actively encourage their usage. We aim to source products that are grown or sourced locally and use minimal packaging. Where products are not available locally, such as coffee beans, we choose organic and Fair Trade. Toiletries and cleaning products are purchased in bulk and are safe for the marine environment.

Thank you for your help appreciate the effort you made to look after me when the elevator was out of order. Thank you Peter for getting us home earlier. We enjoyed the great service we received from the moment we stepped onto the Wellington Wharf... You are all doing a wonderful job. Thank you so much.

Recently used their service both sides of our trip to south. Convenient booking options with good price just need to improve the availability of private cabins.

This was my first time using Bluebridge for a ferry from Wellington to Picton and return. I was charged $458 for myself and a mate along with my car (a standard Audi a4 sedan). This was for both ways and we booked only 48 hours before our trip with a long weekend coming up so the prices are pretty good. The ride was pretty comforting and hassle free. They also have an in house cafe where the food and beverages served are pretty good for the price. Although the toilets appeared to be well maintained, they were stinking of a wierd smell. There were some parts of the ship which I feel could've been better presented. I could see rusting on some corners of the window panes and also some parts didn't seem to have been painted etc in a long time. Also, on our way back from Picton to Wellington, we were made to wait inside our car in a queue for a very long time without any notice etc. There was a massive delay and it was not even a busy weekend night or whatever. Overall, pretty decent and economical for a short 4 hours trip I'd say. Staff members are friendly and overall customer service is good. Does the job okay.

1st time ever I actually booked a cabin. What a luxury that turned out to be. Comfiest bed I've slept in. Was able to sleep despite a broken back rib. Beding was warm. Meal was outstanding. $17 = 3xlamb chops, chips & salad. Chops so tender they melted in your mouth. Wine nice but at $11 a glass too expensive. Service by staff excellent. Very enjoyable trip. Level 3 so restricted travel. Ferry was delayed so had to wait 1 and 1/2 hours. Wasn't much places to sit and was told not to sit in the "truckers" area, even though we had been previously been sitting there for most of the trip. Overall trip was good

The best crossing I have ever had, took the 2am crossing and it hardly felt like the ship was moving. Easy embarking and disembarking from the vehicle deck. Well done Bluebridge
