Really good experience for my almost 2y.o. son, my husband and even my father in law who just turn 81. After finish the walk we stop by and rest at the little food shop/cafe they have. Just make sure you bring water to drink on the way and snack for little kids too.

Great place to discover the history of the tarawera eruption in 1866. Spent a couple of hours here with the family going through the museum and walk through of the buried village. Kids really enjoyed doing the scavenger hunt and the waterfall is really nice.

Haven't been here since I was a kid. Family really enjoyed it....adults learning the history, and the young kids running around doing a treasure hunt. I just wish the treasure hunt was a little bit harder. The kids raced off and were doing it so fast we couldn't keep up and had to rush through a bit.

Loved this me and my fiance just loved every bit. You can tell this was a passionate project and wasn't about the money. They did so much work to uncover the buildings and items. The history of what happened and the family who started the project to make the Buried Village what it is today is just fascinating. It was nice going somewhere where they are just not trying to take your money but real wanted to show people what they have done and share the story's about the village.

The lady at the desk was lovely and the history was really cool to read about. The grounds however seemed very overgrown and forgotten, and for $30.00, not really worth it. The waterfall was probably the only redeeming attraction, but you can see a lot of other beautiful natural landmarks for free. I feel like I pretty much paid to see the waterfall ? would not recommend unfortunately.

It's was pretty amazing to see what's left. The houses had an energy to them as if you could feel the people who lived there, still around. I didn't to the waterfall walk as my kids were already whinging ?. Will definitely go back.

Great place. Very beautiful scenery with a breath taking waterfall, I definitely will be back again. The letters from Margaret one of the whiteness to the destination hits home to the human cost. A 10/10 experience.
