About Carterton Events Centre
Under the Local Government Act 2002, Carterton District Council has a responsibility to promote the social, cultural, economic & environmental well-being of the district. The Events Centre contributes to community well-being by providing a venue for a wide range of opportunities for social and cultural development.
The Carterton Library, believed to be one of the oldest operating public libraries in its original building in New Zealand, was previously unable to meet the demands of modern library users and was long overdue for a major upgrade. Our Library is a key part of encouraging lifelong learning for all – one of Carterton’s agreed community outcomes.
Before the Centre was built, Carterton had no Town Hall. There was a shortage of meeting spaces in the district. Many of Carterton’s 70-80 voluntary organisations faced increasing operating and maintenance costs for venues which they have historically owned.
The district had limited facilities; some would say none, to cater for youth. The Rangatahi Hub (Youth Centre) will help to create a culture of activities and target youth most at risk, which ultimately benefits the wider community.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The facilities are quite good. The parking is atrocious. The city has let itself down badly by this -- having a great public asset that few people can conveniently access. Is more parking the solution? Dunno. The nearest parking on a midday Tuesday was on the street 3 blocks away. That's quite a hike if you have difficulty walking.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is awesome that Carterton event center can bring these big shows back to the Wairarapa. The whole night was sadly spoilt by too many people on the dance area with glass and alcohol. I am amazed that many of these people would slop past you and also leave drinks on the stage if the drinks had tipped over a good night could have ended very early.
Please ban alcohol on the dance area. Close your bar earlier as about 3 songs from the end we nearly had a huge fight on the front dance area. I was in the front row. I don't go out to go through that. Please for the next one BAN drinks glass or plastic on the dance area close to stage.
