★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dale Point sits at the northern entrance to the Milford Sound and is where the exposed waters of the Tasman Sea mergers with the waters of Milford Sound. The point tapers from a height of around 1,520 metres at Rover Peak and projects into the waters of the Tasman Sea, just ahead of the left hand side dog-leg entrance to Milford Sound. Turn left into the dog-leg here (hidden from the open Tasman Sea) and you'll sale into Milford Sound. The point hides the entrance of the fjord making it almost impossible to see Milford Sound and it's for this reason that the Sound was missed by whalers and many expeditions including two lead by Captain Jame Cook. Dale Point is surrounded by sheer rock faces on either side.
