★ ★ ★ ★ ★ New Zealand just never stops giving. The drive to Milford Sound was majestic. The Sound on a suny day incredibly picturesque. Only New Zealand can do this.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A nice small lookout offering majestic views to the iconic Mitre peak in Milford Sound.
It is a part of the Milford foreshore walk and easily accessible by foot.
The views are nice and especially unique just after rain.
We visited here on a sunny day and were lucky to have witnesses blue skies.
It is a small little spot for a memorable picture.
It is nicely maintained and well marked too.
Well recommended while strolling in the area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you walk along the path you’ll see a little forgotten path on the right. If you follow the grown over path and then go left when you reach the stream you’ll find a beautiful little swing with amazing views. Worth the walk!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ You get here from the Milford Sound Foreshore Walk, definitely one of the best place to view the whole of Milford from the shore. You’ll be able to see the side of Bowen falls, see Stirling falls in the distance, and possibly a few others especially after heavy rain. Mitre peak is right in front of you here. This is one of the 4 short walks in the area. Ask the staff at Discover Milford for the map for the other key places to visit here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "Amazing", "beautiful", "wonderful" even "mesmerising", don’t know actually how to put words for the places that i visited(summer) in NewZealand and how i felt. Around the Globe, its the only place where i want to spent my holidays without any second thought. Every scenery is breathtaking! One can spend the whole day only by enjoying the magnificent view.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stunning place and views. Even if the weather is not the perfect one (sunny day), clouds add some additional drama and atmosphere. One of the top spots on New Zealand to visit, even if the road to Milford is quite long?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The heavy rainfall and surrounding rainforest create a unique effect in Milford Sound – the top layer of water is fresh water, while the rest is salt water from the Tasman Sea.
There is a terminal moraine deposit or ‘sill’ at the mouth of Milford Sound, leaving the floor of the fiord just 27m deep at this point (compared with over 300m deep on either side). This sill forms a barrier which stops big ocean swells from coming in, keeping the waters inside relatively calm. You will not get sea sick from heavy ocean swells from your boat ride.
When the glaciers melted, vast quantities of rocky debris were left at the entrance of each fiord. These mounds formed a partial barrier when the sea level rose 6,500 years ago, and today they restrict the flow of sea water in and out of the fiords. Within each fiord, the circulation of water is confined to the top 20–40 metres; deeper waters may remain undisturbed for years.
