β β β β β Friendly service. Great staff. Clean rooms. We enjoyed our free nights stay. It seems Distinction is a common chain throughout NZ (which we didn't know at the time). Our stay here will ensure that when we go back to NZ we will look for Distinction hotels. We certainly recommend you consider doing the same.

β β β β β Excellent view of the lake right across the road. Staff very helpful; I got sick one night there and they were able to extend my stay by a day when I asked them about an hour before I was due to leave, no issues at all. Room was quite comfortable. Restaurant was a bit pretentious and pricey. There's a thin line between creating atmosphere and just leaving the lights off to save on power or something.

β β β β β We loved this hotel. Villa rooms size is okay but you have to like the noices of your neighbours. The rooms are well equipped and cozy. Staff were very helpful and took the time to chat with us. The restaurant/bar staff were some of the best i have ever come across.

β β β β β The hotel staff is friendly. We stayed in the lake view room. These rooms don't have any air conditioning only a heating unit. We were there for two nights with two kids. With the hot weather we only had a single pedestal fan in the room. Very uncomfortable experience at night. Given this is a 4 star hotel I was expecting an air con to be included to be used in summer days.

β β β β β Very outdated and old, the room looked like a hotel from the 70s. Rock solid inbuilt seats. Milk capsules were so little you needed 3 to make a regular instant coffee in their tiny cups. Sheets are noisy with every move you make. Also there is no air con so it was super hot, the fans done little to help. Room was not worth the price!
Room was massive however! Could comfortably fit 4 adults and 3 children with the layout splitting 2 rooms if needed just bring a blow up bed. Quiet, private and clean!

β β β β β Our room on ground floor overlooked the lake and had a balcony with 2 chairs but no table. Decent sized room with 2 double beds & ensuite. Large restaurant with separate bar area which has outside seating (with tables) with lake views. Small outdoor pool which is Bromine treated (rather than chlorine) so kind on the eyes. Easy walk into town for shops cafes etc.

β β β β β I am a US traveler who stayed at the Te Anau with a tour, then on my own for the next night. Rating hotels from city to city and country to country is not an easy task. This is an older property that has a phenomenal location across from the lake. There are no brand new high end hotels anywhere in the town, so when in Rome do as the Romans do. Everything in the hotel is clean, from the rooms and linen, to the restaurant and bar. There is a terrific breakfast included with the room stay, and there is something for everyone. The food at the hotel is also quite good. We ate dinner there with the group, then ate in the bar the next evening so we could watch Roger Federer pull off one of the great comebacks in tennis history. We had every intention to go out, but couldnβt leave the match.
We love sleeping with the windows open so that was no problem for us. It may be a problem if you want to be hermetically sealed up with air conditioning, because AC does not exist in that area. Sleep on the second floor if youβre not comfortable opening your window on the ground level. Lastly, every one of the staff was nicer and more helpful than the next.

β β β β β Very dated rooms. No air conditioning, but at least a fan was provided. We had a view of the lake, but the water plane and helicopter take-off points are just outside, so we couldn't keep the window open during the day due to the noise. Hotel is a convenient walk to city center. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Service overall was very friendly.
