★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Unfortunately we were on a tight schedule, so could not take in all that was on offer here. We had hit it on an open day. Country music, BBQ and women spinning were the features to come to our attention. We skirted by this to look at the exhibits. The workshop was founded by Hayes who emigrated to New Zealand from Warwickshire and started making implements which would help him farm. He ended up selling his wares around New Zealand, employing men in the factory and employing salesmen and saleswomen to sell his wares throughout NZ.
On view with guided trips were the workshops. There was also the house to look around with the original contents and electrical wiring. Interesting cables and switches linking the power supply from the workshop generator to the house.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ mansplaining at its worst. A week latter and it still leaves a dirty taste in my mouth. The female staff were polite and appropriate however the male staff member was absolutely insulting and condescending WHY because I am female! He told me how to put a bike on a rack, how to open a gate, picked up my glove because iT had “droped them” it went on and on and on - It \was So inappropriate when I pointed out to him that I was over 60 not “a lass.’. I had no effect Awful experience and horrible to be talked down to in this way. Will never stop here again and neither all my friends

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A highlight of our South Island experience. Hay lunch and then spent over two hours looking around. Wish I could have taken my Dad, he would have loved it too.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's fascinating that the tools made then are still in working condition. Good to see the origins of hays wire strainer.
Well worth a visit even if you're not into mechanics, my partner still found it very fun.
In addition to the museum, the cafe served very good latte and nachos.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Pleasant, small historical sight. There wasn’t much of particular note here. If I had a friend visiting the area I wouldn’t suggest they go out of their way to visit the Hayes site.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fantastic place to visit, great piece of NZ history. Be prepared- you should remove shoes when in the house, we'll worth it though. And excellent coffee.
