Mostly a great experience but the wifi is terrible, like a 14.4 modem terrible. Please bring this aspect up to modern standards.

Interislander won't let you take firearms on board which is probably a good thing. This f%@king banjo music makes me want to shoot myself.....

Have led groups of British tourists across from wellington to Picton for several years using Interislander Ferry service. Every year the journey is becoming more and more intolerable. Come the school holidays the ferry is over run with over excited school children high on sugar running around the ferry like its the first day they have ever been allowed out to play. School groups are allocated separate reserved seating areas - but inevitably they spread over the boat like a virus occupying virtually the entire ships public seating areas leaving little space for the rest of the passengers. Signs clearly indicate that running should be avoided at all costs - yet these wild untamed children run up and down and around the boat like they are taking part in a 10 k marathon. Staff struggle to manage and control the children as the teachers and companions are far more concerned with updating Facebook and checking unsocial media to actually bother to control and manage their charges. What was once one of the most beautiful ferry journeys in the world has quickly turned into 3.5 hours of enduring screaming children - god help you if it’s a choppy crossing - you then have the fun of 400 children pumped full of sugar puking all over the boat followed by tears and tantrums. Fly if you can, swim if no alternative. Get me off this ferry through hell.

A wonderful way to go between North and South Islands. We had calm seas so it was a comfortable trip both ways. There's a variety of seating arrangements on board so worth looking around. Some are table sets which I prefer, others are the high back chairs, which I'm less keen on as they block most of your view, so prefer the table setup. Different ships have different layouts too. You do need to be quick though once you get onboard to get seating, so don't muck around. Generally people walking on will get a seat quicker, so worth thinking about as you might want to split up if driving on. Food was generally good and reasonably priced too. Only real downside is the cost of taking a car which is offensively expensive.

The Interislander is worth it for the views, the views are really spectacular as you’re in between the fjords and you can also enjoy watching the dolphins swim. If you are prone to sea sickness, try sitting at the back of the ferry as it can get a bit rocky at the beginning. Try and bring food onboard with you as it is pricey and avoid the scones, they tasted like bread warmed up in the microwave. There is real coffee available at the bar and in the cafe on Level 7. Overall we had a good experience.

A Golden Light is the New Beginning Cruising, literally, into this year’s last sunset, full of hope and expectations. It will bring a fresh mindset and open locked doors

When the weather is perfect You will enjoy the best experience of cross strait ferry service With your car or not. Restaurant / bar / paid lounge / cinema / lookout deck standard seating area. Or seating area with Ocean View Friendly staff team 3.5 hours journey is just perfect You would feel regret it is too short. But you also would not feel too long to finish your journey.

Often late, unorganized, and use most of their seating space for crew, truck drivers, or people prepared to pay an extra $80. There's no etiquette about seating so those with no care, lay down and sleep across 4 seats or more leaving others to sit in hard wooden canteen chairs for 4+ hours. The rustic ships themselves have a layer of paint and veneer to hide their age and condition. Rooms near the windows can become cold on a cool night, and in the winter absolutely freezing. Except for canteen staff and a lone security guard, there's no boat staff to be seen. If you can stand the cold, the views are nice ?
