Had an amazing time with Josh from Kaikoura Kayaks! My partner and I were lucky enough to be the only people on the tour during our time slot, and it was an awesome trip. Managed to get up close and personal with seals and even a couple of little blue penguins. Josh was super knowledgeable, and was able to give us a good insight on the different animals in the area, and on the Kaikoura peninsula as a whole. We were a bit worried about a winter kayak experience, but Kaikoura really turned it on for us, we had calm seas and blue skies, couldn't have asked for better conditions! The addition of the provided jackets, neoprene booties, and sprays skirts kept us super warm and dry - we almost regretted the number of layers we piled on underneath. We had such a good time, and will definitely be back in spring/summer to see another side of Kaikoura. Thanks team :)

We are a family of 4 from Wellington including 4 year old we had the best time with Emma and Miles. where else can you enjoy a backdrop of snowcapped mountains while kayaking and seal watching and to top it off we observed a humpback whale from about 200m away! perfect weather and experienced local guides who will tailor your time on the water to suit your group. We spent a solid 2 hours out there and could have stayed longer! And to top it off they send you pics of your day at no extra charge!! miharo rawa atu! we will be back next year with a group of 12 people and can't wait to bring them on this tour. and can we have Emma again lol. 5 stars from us ????

I had a great time with Kaikoura Kayaks, fully recommend them. I arrived literally 10 minutes before the start of the kayak trip and they provided me a guide asap. Sophie was a fantastic guide, she has an incredible knowledge about the living creatures of the ocean as well as I felt very safe paddling with her in one kayak. We saw lots of seals, the kayaks are super reliable, almost impossible to flip. Awesome adventure, thank you!

Excellent tour with an excellent guide! We throughly enjoyed our winter Kayak in Kaikoura. Didn’t see any dolphins but got some good glimpses of the seals! Won’t get views like we did without the kayak tour! Josh was an excellent tour guide! Explained everything accurately with was very personable.

Had an amazing time on our wildlife tour in early April! The team were super helpful and really strive to make sure you have the best time possible. Lots of extra accessories to help keep you dry (great for if you've got a lot planned for the rest of the day). Didn't manage to see any dolphins or whales this time round but the seals were an absolute highlight as well as the various bird types! The area they take you around is breathtaking and this is truly a special experience, regardless of how much or how little wildlife you may encounter. Highly recommend.

Let me start off by saying I'm grateful to Matt and Miles for allowing me to come out. Matt the owner and Miles my guide were friendly, awesome and helpful. My 4 star review has no reflection on the staff or quality. I guess number one is it's hard being a big person trying to do these types of activities and can only fit in certain kayaks. Because I had to go on a sit on top even with the little seat it wasn't enough back support for me and my lower back and hips etc started giving out.. abs no longer as tough as they used to be. Someone needs to invent a metal or steel backing seat for the sit on tops that stay upright and firmly support heavy set people such as myself.. so this is not the teams fault. Secondly I know there were no guarantees id see dolphins or other wild mammals other than seals but I was still sad about it, again it's not like team kaikoura kayaks could do anything about that. Still a bit disheartening though. Once again maybe feel a Lil frustrated and bitter about not being able to go on the whale or dolphin tour boats where I would've had a better chance. I think for me too like if I had a car I would've just hired a kayak and paddled alone out there... not pay so much for a paddle. In saying these things I'll give 200 stars to Miles for paddling me back to the dock after my back and hips couldn't cope with sitting upright to paddle anymore... I should give 5 stars just for that but i think it's good to be open and honest about my personal experience through expectations especially after seeing the videos and pics on Facebook. I'd say if you would like a paddle out in the kaikoura waters with friendly and informative and fun guides and the absolute luck of seeing wildlife then definitely come out.. but just don't have high expectations like I did... it's not their fault though wildlife make up their own mind lol.. just when you spend a lot of money you hope to see what you expect I guess. I am gutted that I couldn't paddle any longer to keep going to see if we could spot anything but yeah. Thank you once again and highly recommended. I guess the good thing about having a guide is they know the water they are informative and they can help you out if need be..

Epic! I signed up to this thinking I was going to go kayaking around the seal colony which I was super pumped about already! We had booked for the sunset kayak but due to the weather, Matt the tour operator gave us a call in the morning and asked if we wanted to switch to the morning and that there were a massive pod of dolphins out and about. So we happily rearranged our time and met up with everyone in the morning. When we arrived, all the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and super knowledgeable. They had a quick brief with us then we were off to launch the kayaks. Within minutes we were paddling amongst a pod of what seemed like 20-30 dolphins. It was magic, unbelievable! I loved the flexibility the tour offered too. We kind of stayed as a group but we were still able to paddle off where we wanted to be amongst the dolphins. I’m still buzzing from the experience a few hours later. I can’t recommend these guys enough! They were amazing. Cheers for the awesome trip guys. Can’t wait to do it again!
