★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stopped in for lunch on our way to Fox Glacier over Easter, rustic casual venue with order at the bar service. We both got BLT's and they were delicious, they got the recipe so right. Even our table neighbours commented on their 'food envy'. I'd go back again easily for the BLT.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Such a shame as there was so much potential. A warm greeting which disappeared as the evening went on. When asking for an afrogato...we were told to "stick to the menu". Most good good restaurants would be prepared to adapt when required. Meals were good in quantity but average in quality. Hey ho no worries it was a good night overall. BUT , then we went for take away coffee the next day .....$7.....

Sorry started to drink the drinks befre I took the photo..literally best coffee I have ever tasted.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Surprised at all the great reviews (which were what lured us in!) and hate to be the voice of dissent...
We got there 3 minutes before they switched from breakfast to lunch. Having spent years working in restaurants, I know the groan of frustration if someone orders at the last second when you've already started shutting down or switching over that station.
So, given that by this point it was probably 2 minutes to the switch, I asked whether it would be easier for the kitchen if we order from the lunch menu or the breakfast menu.
"Uhhhh, it's BREAKFAST TIME, sooo you order from the BREAKFAST MENU," the cashier snapped in a bizarrely attitudinous way, barely leaving the implied "duh" unspoken.
Yes... for another 90 seconds by that point, it was indeed breakfast time.
But fine. Sure. Didn't care either way, just trying to look out for the kitchen. Ordered from the breakfast menu as instructed.
My dish, the veggie breakfast, was profoundly unmemorable.
My husband's, the bacon & eggs, came without bacon. Kind of an important component when the dish is literally bacon and eggs. Maybe the cooks had already shut down the grill...
Anyway, he asked about the missing bacon and eventually got it. But all in all, the food (once we actually had complete dishes) was pretty bog standard, and the condescending rudeness of the cashier had already left a bad taste.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I had the potato hash brown with pumpkin & bacon from the cabinet (I think). It came with a salad underneath & lovely decoration of fresh greens on top, & a generous helping of bacon. Very enjoyable & was a bigger portion than expected. I couldn't pick up the kawakawa flavor in the green tea, but still refreshing. Staff didn't rush us at all. I recommended this place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ While I cant say I've visited every eating establishment in Hoki, after eating at "Kitchen" I'm not sure I need to. What a great place ,has a nice vibe about It, and the food ,oh the food, so good. I had the stuffed Kumar, just delicious.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Kitchen Hokitika is amazing. We had the bbq ribs and the fish tacos, and we couldn’t finish either of them. The food was delicious and the atmosphere cheery. Great place for solid kiwi tucker.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One of the best meals I’ve had travelling along the West Coast. Amazing presentation, attentive service, delicious flavours and beautifully plated. An unexpected gem in Hokitika and while I don’t usually eat in the same place twice I would have if I stayed more than 1 night.
