About Martinborough Vineyard

The location was no accident. In a quest to make the highest quality Pinot Noir, Martinborough Vineyard founders conducted a DSIR survey to reveal the closest New Zealand climactic analog to Burgundy, the birthplace of Pinot Noir. The survey determined the optimal location was within a small rain shadow centered on the township of Martinborough.

This site is closed and the wines are available at Te Kairanga some distance away. Shame the website does not say this.

Most disgusting service we have ever experienced. We arrived with no booking and instantly she had a change in attitude as if we were a annoyance simply by being there. When one of our girls asked what colours they have (she is not knowledgeable on wine) as she doesn't like reds. She was promptly told she was to drunk to be served "becouse she asked a question like that" when she actually was sober. We told the lady this and were kicked out for "back chatting". Worst experience ever and the most obnoxious host.

We (group of 2) loved the two wines we tasted - the Pinot Gris (a little warm) and the Sav Blanc - but after 10 minutes with an empty glass we decided to leave. With only one other group tasting at the time we managed to walk out without acknowledgement. I don't understand how one server can neglect other customers with such dedication but I may have to put my jacket on Trademe as an invisibility cloak. That should provide me plenty of $ to spend at the other great cellar doors in Martinborough, which can manage more than 1 group of tasters at a time.

Good and bad. Good because the wine is always good, the setting is lovely and there is a good story to tell my tour customers. Bad because without Neil you do not have someone behind the tasting bar that can do an interesting tasting AND sell your wine. 5 wines were tasted in about 10 minutes and then we were out the door, and the place was not busy. No-one can make a buying decision in those circumstances.

Really wonderful wine tasting experience, absolutely loved the location as well, they had an awesome setting with bean bags outside under some trees, it was extremely relaxing. Easy to get to by both bicycle and car, we drank the wine and gin tasting, it was amazing, highly recommended for anyone and it comes with a reasonable price tag. Perfect date idea, take some bicycles and travel around martinborough tasting wines and eating. Promise it will be an outstanding time!
