Oh my goodness, what a slice of paradise. Remote yet accessible. Magical spot, no cellphone or Internet so perfect place to unplug from the world

Wonderful place to visit. Lots of choices to park/camp and nice clean toilets all around the huge area.

Campsite was very picturesque however the people were loud at all hours of the night and very inconsiderate of the other people camping. Some people also went around the site on their motorbikes in the wee small hours of the night which drove us mad. Not the best place of you are looking for tranquility.

The perfect secluded camping spots. Plenty of space, beautiful lakes, lots of toilets/taps and frequent fire pits. Definitely recommend. Just a few suggestions though, don’t try to chop down live trees for fire wood, they won’t burn clean. Take your rubbish with you. Put down the lid on long drops, it helps decomposition and smell.

Fantastic spot. We visited July in a campervan and there was only 3 other campervans there. Plenty of places to park up, either right by the lake or under the trees or up high over lokking the lake. Swingbridges at bottoms of nth and sth mavora lakes which take you into some amazing forest walks. Pay your camp fees at the south mavora lake.

Department of Conservation campground at its finest! Well worth the detour down the gravel road, although if you’re venturing so far I’d suggest spending a few nights. More likely to see local Kiwis with their boats and motorbikes and caravans as opposed to tourists in Jucy vans. Lots and lots of space to camp, so even when busy you should be able to get a fair bit of privacy. Some epic sites right on the water on both lakes and plenty more further back near the native forest - north and south wind rips up and down the lake so shelter by the trees may be better than the lakeside spot. Plenty of drop toilets that were very clean. Water sourced from up in the mountains so likely safe to drink even though DOC suggests treating first. Great hiking through beautiful bush. Cold swim is highly recommended! We loved it here and will hopefully be back!

A stunning place to camp, no phone reception and two beautiful lakes surrounded by mountains. There's a four wheel drive track to a couple of huts but to access this get on the doc website and get the access code for the gate. It is well worth visiting mavora lakes, some really good fishing to be had. There are toilets scattered around the camp grounds and great places to set up camp. A few days atleast will do you good, its relaxing. There's some good walking tracks and it's just an amazing place to go. Beware, you will find it will become a regular place to visit!
