★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The best MECCA branch in NZ! Unlike other branches, they always answer their phone and over the phone service is fantastic. The Chch staff are always friendly, knowledgeable, and work hard to understand each customer's skin and make up needs. I have been here many times to get skin care and make up, which I trust and use every day. Their beauty services are also on point, have taken friends to get make-overs done with great success. As a big plus, they are also dog friendly, which makes the visit a treat for both my collie and I! Highly highly recommend ❤️

I am writing to express my utmost feelings of sadness and humiliation following a visit to your High St store.
On the afternoon of December 8th, I visited looking for Christmas presents, I was wearing a face covering and scanned in with the COVID tracer app. Within moments I was approached by a staff member asking to see my Vaccine Passport, I explained to her that I did not have one as due to personal medical issues I have not been vaccinated at this time, at which point the staff member told me that I was welcome to look around but I wouldn’t be allowed to ‘touch anything’ and if I needed any assistance I should let them know.
I was publicly shamed and humiliated in front of the staff and other shoppers, to be spoken to as if I am some kind of unclean cretin brought tears to my eyes and I left.
I work in the women’s fashion industry and have a team of young women under me, they all understand that although vigilance is needed in the face of the ongoing pandemic threat they should never act without humanity and respect towards our clients. I simply cannot imagine one of my girls having such hubris as to tell a client not to touch things.
What disappoints me the most, is that MECCA has been such a visible proponent of building a diverse and inclusive environment where anyone can feel welcome and leave feeling good. Today I see that in large part this is simply a veneer, and you still have a way to go to provide respect and dignity to everyone who wishes to experience MECCA.

me.. Shop here all the time and have had really nice lady's that have served me that is what makes me wanna go back...but this girl made me feel uncomfortable just rude. But still my favourite shop

I went into the store on 24/12/21 to purchase a NARS foundation in th shade Punjab I've owned this foundation multiple times so I knew exactly what I wanted.
Being Christmas Eve I knew it'd be busy but I didn't expect to stand there for 15 mins without being approached! I made eye contact with several shop assistants to which no one offered their services. I reached out to a women I'd seen walking around multiple times (not with a customer) who said bluntly "no sorry I'm with someone". After a while this women came back and said she was able to help me, her attitude was not great and so I mentioned it must be busy due to Christmas Eve to which she replied "no we're not busy at all".
If not busy I wonder why I was the only women in the store not being helped and receiving funny looks??
I'm unsure if it is because I am of colour with tattoos and piercings or if I wasn't dresses up to par as most of the other females were but I felt excluded and ashamed. The whole reason I needed assistance was because there was no foundation in my shade available.
This will be the last time I ever come in store to make my purchase, I buy off the Mecca website annually so I'll also be looking for other places to shop.
As a Māori women of New Zealand I feel disappointed and ashamed!!!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Popped into the Christchurch central store to get my usual skincare products and the customer service was awful. Very disappointing experience. 1 star for a lovely young staff member to assist me with some products in store. 0 stars for staff at the till being completely unprofessional and rude I politely asked if I could redeem my birthday gift and was told to come back on the actual day or provide proof of email which is fine. When I decided to come back another day to redeem the gift because the store was busy, the ladies that served me rolled their eyes at me and were passing on rude comments with each other. I felt judged for just asking for 1 simple request and also because I wasn't white/pākeha. Definitely not recommending this store to others in the future. Hopefully Ballentynes have better customer service.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went into this store on 09/04/22. I was very disappointed with my experience. I went in and there were about 10 staff members working and about the same amount of customers in the store. I walked in needing help and walking around the store for about 25 mins looking clueless and still no one even said hi or offered to help. There were 2 staff memebers in one corner of the store gossiping about something they were doing together after work and what they’re going to be wearing and 4 staff members behind the counter laughing and gossiping. There were about 2 staff memebers actually helping customers. After about 25 mins I ended up asking someone for help and she was very helpful but was still very disappointed.
