★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really disappointing visit to the shop on Saturday. Came in with the intention of loading up on various things for Christmas presents. The young guy manning the counter was deep in conversation with another customer (?), and didn't acknowledge me at all. I tried and failed 2 or 3 times to say hi/make myself available to be addressed, but he flat out ignored me? He definitely saw me as we did lock eyes, but couldn't even squeeze out a smile! I felt so unwelcome that I left.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I bought a canister of Annie Sloan paint because I have heard really good things and when I opened the canister it was rusted inside.
I was so disappointed as it was $70, i went back to discuss it with them and only the daughter was there and she said that it was my fault and they would not take any responsibility for it.
Alongside that it was quite obvious that she is against covid 19 regulations as she made snarky comments about me wearing a mask.
I would not recommend this place to anyone, i thought i would shop local but it was such a disappointment.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a super-cool joint run by Kate Woodcock. She is an extraordinary shopkeeper who is just as vibrant as the shop itself. Needle in the Hay is filled with curios, interesting homewares, immaculately curated vinyl and industrial things. Her husband is one of the owners of Rocket Coffee and she’s always got a pot of coffee on. Kate supports beautiful artists and craftspeople around New Zealand. The shop is in a big old shed with a huge roller door. It’s got an industrial exterior and is super stylie inside. Katie and Alan Deare - Wellbeing and Relaxation Experts

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Love this shop, such a cool array of interesting things and loads of NZ made products. Always leave delighted with my purchases and Kate that owns and runs the shop always leaves me smiling. Did I also mention she always has coffee on the brew and great music playing. The Paint and fabric shop next door which shares the space is a nice accompaniment to Needle in the hay.
