About Otumuheke Stream (Spa Park Hot Pools)
Wild and ancient, the river-run mountains of the Kaimanawa Forest Park have long called to adventurers and hunters. Wild horses, sika and red deer roam the park, and the mostly untouched native beech forests are alive with native birds (including kiwi), insects, the large indigenous snail Powelliphanta marchanti, and native bats.

The view is nice, the park is great, the river is lovely on a hot day - and if you're into it - the bike ride to Huka falls is great (level3) but the hot pools were disappointing after a big ride in April, we were looking forward to hot pools but no longer there.... They have recently developed the area, adding café, toilets and steps. They have fenced off the upper stream pools (so sad) and now the water is tepid. Go figure.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely free natural hot pools. Can be a bit busy during the peak times. Can dip in the hot pools and shift over too the river for a refreshing dip. A nice toilet and changing room available but the coffee cart is only sometimes open.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great spot to go and refresh in the cold water of the Waikato river on a hot day and then jump into the (very) hot thermal waters! Its very relaxing! If the water is not your thing you can just have an ice cream from the in site cafe while watching the river floaters pass by...
