β β β β β Staying here is like staying with family. The staff, especially the lovely American receptionist Kelly, are amazing. So kind, witty, and knowledgeable. That manager should give them a raise. There was also a lovely cleaner there named Niki but I think she's gone off to pursue her career in AUS. Ten out of ten would recommend. P.s. mind the kebab shop outside.

β β β β β Good option for a low budget stay in Auckland, but not a very convenient place if you want a place to actually rest after a long flight if you just landed in NZ.
The positive:
The location is very good, as it's a breath away from Queen's street, which has a lot of shops. It's also quite close to the ferry port.
The staff were friendly and the overall vibe was nice however. The hostel was full of young people and at night there were people in the reception floor drinking and having fun.
The negative:
The dorm rooms I stayed was quite small and the bed was really small and uncomfortable (at least for tall people).
There was no water tap and soap in the toilets on my floor, just alcohol pumps, which I felt was a bit inconvenient. If you wanted to wash your face or brush your teeth you had to do this in the shower or in the toilet of the reception floor.
The verdict:
If you are in the mood of socializing and partying, then this is a good place, but if you want a place to relax look elsewhere.

β β β β β One of the best places to stay in Auckland.
Big reception/common area where you can always make friends or just chill and do your own stuff. Always clean and tidy. Recommend it.

β β β β β Queens street backpackers is one of thee best hostels in Auckland. I have personally stayed in quite a few around Auckland and elsewhere in New Zealand and I have never felt safer in a City. It can be loud, but you are on the most popular street with access to all the bars and pubs you desire?

β β β β β Terrible service, no where does it state on their terms and conditions that you have to bring a passport despite how smug the women was that our needed to have one! Apparently according to them its the law? I had a photo of it, not good enough - they seemed almost proud they were turning people away and despite me screenshotting the website to show it does NOT ask for a passport when booking direct i was still turned away. They still have my money and were so vague when ill get it back, checked in at 1 am couldnt stay anywhere else so had to sleep on the streets. Way a go, good way to look after your own!

β β β β β if i could give less than one star i would. Took my money when i booked online and didnt even let me stay despite booking and paying over the phone. When i arrived to check in they turned me away, does not state in the terms and conditions anywhere. Offered my bank details instead and still turned away, all the team where hanging around with drunk guests which were more their priority than helping me. Poor service, should know the law instead of spouting off things they think is law, with no tourists youd think a business would treat customers better. I tried checking in at 1am and because i got turned away i had to sleep in my car.

β β β β β Great location for solo travelers like me.. I had so many options for food, and entertainments. Budget place and exactly on clubbing area. It is busy area and I didnβt felt like left alone. Explored lot of places.

β β β β β Really shabby hostel. The only good point is the location.
I stayed one night (wouldnβt stay more) in a 8 beds room. The place is old and not maintained. The beds are shaky and there is not even a ladder to access to the top bunk bed.
Streets around are very busy at nighttime and the sound isolation is non existant (old building). Good luck sleeping on a week end...
My recommendation : pay an extra couple dollars and go somewhere else !
