β β β β β Loved the track and it was relatively easy walking. The lookout at the top provides amazing views all around, there are some information boards to point out the sights. The trail is good, and there are some nice spots to rest along the way if things are a bit hard too.

β β β β β I have a very good advice for you. Do not walk this track when it's raining (like me) :D I had to turn around maybe about 500m from the summit because this mud was so slippery I couldn't walk up. One step up two slips down :D But at the bottom part of the track there is almost hidden turn left where you can go explore of the track with beautiful scenery.

β β β β β Uphill battle to the summit took about an hour on foot. 45m coming down. Good views from the top. Trail is fairly well maintained.

β β β β β We loved this short track.
Make sure you wear decent shoes, as it was slippery mud all around.
You can believe the times of the isite and doc (they said 3 hours there and back)
We took 3. 5 hours. However, you have to be fit. The slopes are quite steep and the children (especially the young ones, 6-7 yr old had a rough time).
Take 2 hours to the top and an 1.5 back. Too bad we didn't have a view because of the clouds..

β β β β β On our way to taupo we pulled over to check the scenic reserve out. We didnt have enough time to do the summit walk so just did the 500m crater lake walk which was a very easy 15 min round trip. The view was definately worth it! Best to take on the advice in other reviews that state dont do this walk in the wet as the track was slippery to the crater lakes and it wasnt that wet. We will be back to tackle the summit walk this summer.

β β β β β Good view at the top, walk takes about 1.25 hours to the top and 45 mins back down. Most undercover in the bush. Moderate level of fitness required.
