★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A harsh environment, good footwear is a must. Plan your trail in advance due to the limited ferry timetable. For alternative routes back form the summit there are no times listed. We opted for a loop track which was less steep, with beautiful boardwalk through the tree canopy. But we found ourselves hobbling over the volcanic rocks for the last ferry. No chance even for a swim in the turquoise water close by the jetty. On relfection only option was up and back the summit track, which seems a shame.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice track when you heading up to the summit. You can see city view from the top.
And before you go there, make sure you get ready your jacket, because always big wind there..
It's just half an hour from Auckland city by ferry..

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Did a 7km return hike to the summit on a hot sunny day. Well worth the trip. Kids loved the whole adventure of going on a boat and walking up a volcano. Don't forget your sunscreen and hat.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The walk to the summit is pretty easy and chill. Bring lots of water and food. Beware of the quail trying to attack you for your food. Moral, don't feed em. Else it's very pretty and like another world. The view from the top is amazing and photos can't do it justice.
