Sal’s Story
1941: Salvatore Leo is born in a little town call Corato in the Puglia region of Southern Italy.
1951: Only 10 years old, Sal immigrates to New York City.
1959: Under the watchful eye of his family, Sal begins mastering the art of making authentic New York pizza by hand by strictly adhering to his family’s well-guarded pizza making techniques and secret recipes.
1975: ‘Sal’s Pizza of Little Neck’ opens and Sal’s legend starts to spread, becoming renowned for some of the finest and freshest pizza throughout the city.
2008: After a number of ‘recovery’ pizzas following a celebratory NYC New Years, the idea of bringing Authentic NY pizza to NZ was born.
Late 2008: Following successful blind taste tests using NZ water on some of Sal’s longest customers in NYC, we prove that NZ WATER WORKS to make Authentic New York Pizza.
2009: ‘Sal’s Authentic New York Pizza’ opens our first store in Auckland, and Brian Leo -’Son o’ Sal and pizza making prodigy’ decides to join us.
Many years later, Brian continues to train and mentor our pizza makers ensuring his family legacy lives on in every slice we serve.

β β β β β The Sals pizza in CBD will have only pizza left and nothing else if you visit 7pm onwards. So if you want wings etc order earlier so that they keep wings and breadsticks for you. The food is nice if you like that type of food. Itβs nice to eat it fresh

For the price of a pizza from Sals would at least expect it to arrive warm.
Very disappointed!
Will go back to Hells pizzas from now on.

β β β β β Iβm sad because I like the slice, but donβt think I can do it again.
This is the second time now Iβve ordered a vegetarian slice that was hiding a large chunk of chicken.
Not consuming animal flesh is something serious to me and something practiced by different religions. I unfortunately didnβt get an apology and felt like the man serving was reluctant to compensate and not empathetic to my negative experience.
Other people will have a similar experience to me if you continue to serve vegetarian slices that were cooked with meat on one half of the pizza

β β β β β 1 star is being generous..! Heard so much good things about this place so decided to try it tonight... Big mistake and waste of money! $35 got myself and my family a burnt, bland pizza with hardly any sauce or cheese and only afew pieces of pepperoni on it for our dinner. Veeeery disappointed I don't know how anybody could like this place... Dominoes is like gourmet compared to this place ? Oh and not to mention the absolutely atrocious service... Won't be going back or recommending it ?

β β β β β We've visited Sal's in Wellington a few times since my son introduced us to it, and were really impressed (hence the repeat visits). Never realized until recently that there was one much closer to home in Petone!
So we happened to be close by recently and were feeling particularly hungry and decided to pay a visit. Really pleased we did! Awesome, friendly service and the pizza and chicken nibbles are as equally awesome as the Wellington one.
One word of warning though...the exit ramp from the store is actually a slight step down from floor level, and if you're not aware of this fact and say, carrying a large pizza box blocking the view of your feet, you could easily fall and drop your pizza and wings on the ramp in the process, much like my wife did! To be fair, the staff were quick to the scene and very concerned as to her condition. Physical bruises were probably less than the bruised ego at that point! Still enjoyed our rather shaken up food and leaking hot sauce though!

β β β β β Yum yum yum I had the pepperoni pizza...cheese pizza and a meatball pizza special made for me by and absolute gorgeous girl on the counter.... so thankful sal's is around to pleasure my taste buds.
The kuz and I say gotta try???
