Stevens St Lukes - Mount Albert
About Stevens St Lukes
At Stevens, we believe in building on the best of our heritage and adding a constant flow of new ideas and innovations. That's what keeps us young at heart!
We're a family-owned company first established in 1924, when we opened our first household hardware & kitchen appliance store in Karangahape Road, Auckland called Henry Stevens Limited.
Henry's two sons, Owen and Spencer joined the business in the 1930's and served their apprenticeship until called up for active service during the Second World War. In 1946 Owen and Spencer took over the business as Stevens Bros Limited and over the next eight years two more stores were opened.
By the time Stevens celebrated 50 years in the importing / retail profession in 1976, we had ten stores. It was that time that Owen and Spencer handed over the company's management to the third generation of Stevens sons - Barry, Warren, and Mark.
In 1986, we opened our first store outside the Auckland region in Whangarei, followed by expansion into Hamilton and Wellington over the next four years.
We were known as "Stevens for Gifts", with a focus on dining, collectables and gifts for the home
With the arrival of the new century, we introduced our new store fit-out and focused our efforts more directly on the growing kitchen and homeware market. These modern new presentations were rolled out in new and existing stores in Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington and through expansion into Bayfair, Palmerston North and Christchurch.
During 2005, with further expansion in mind, we relocated our support office to Wiri, in a purpose-built distribution centre incorporating fully integrated warehouse management and daily replenishment systems.
We took our gift registry service online in late 2005, giving our customers the ability to buy wedding and other gifts from anywhere in the world. In late 2007, we opened our full Webstore with the complete Stevens product offering, supported by our catalogue, mail and phone order options.
In November 2007 Stevens Bros Limited was purchased by the James Pascoe Group, another family owned retailing icon of New Zealand, which has been operating Jewellery stores in New Zealand for over a century and has retailing interests on both sides of the Tasman. Under the new owners a rapid expansion in both stores and products took place to drive the business forward into the new millennium.
There are now 24 Stevens stores throughout New Zealand. We employ close to two hundred people, many of whom have been with the business from 10 to 40-plus years! After 98 years of trading, we still hold our family-values close to our hearts, making Stevens a very special place to work and shop.

β β β β β Had a bad experience with this store a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I went in for a can opener, i inquired what the difference is between a $19 model and $39 model as the mechanism looked the same, the older lady there angrily told me that "it's better", when I asked how is it any better she kept repeating that's it's simply better, getting more irritated. So I put both back on the shelf, thanked her and then as i started to walk out, I heard her mutter to her colleague "cheapos".
Where is the basic customer service? If you don't have product knowledge of items being sold in the store, that's okay, but then to treat customers in such a manner, yeah nah I'm not coming back to this store.

β β β β β The staff are just amazing. If my Mum is not with me,on my visit. I'm asked "where's Mum"!
She will be resting in car. Mum's 98
I'm not sure what to say. The products you buy at Steven's, St Luke's are just what you want.( if it's not, the ladies will get it for you.) I think it's the consistent true friendship + smiles you get frin the staff that keep you returning to Steven's.
Thankyou staff for your helpful hints, and you generous kindness through out the year. May you prosper,+ be happy + blessed al through 2020.
May ur God go with you, every inch of ur walk. XX

β β β β β An advice for a young Kiwi lady working there. Don't be judgemental and you need to smile back when a customer smiles to you. This is the basics and etiquette should have never been forgotten. Will not step into this store again. FIRST IMPRESSIONS DO LAST! Sincerely hope your staff will improve. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE TO ANYONE, VERY LIMITED RANGE OF KITCHEN ITEMS

β β β β β Had a bad experience with this store yesterday. My 15 years old son and I went in for a pull chopper. When we were trying the samples on the shelf, an old lady staff came to stand behind us, when we realized someone behind us and looked back, she said βdonβt break it!βwith a strange face expression.
Is the quality of what you sell so poorοΌ! So easy to break?
After she told us that, she went straight back to the counter, didnβt even ask if we needed help.
Where is the basic manner? Would not recommend this store to anyone.
