At Tongariro Crossing Lodge, you will be welcomed warmly and made to feel at home from the moment you arrive.
Your hosts are Marina and Louis van Wyk, who acquired the property in December 2016.
As travellers ourselves we know what it’s like to explore a new country or to dash to the mountains for a few days. We aim to offer all the home comforts, plus a few extra touches, to help you relax and recharge with the splendour of Tongariro National Park as your backdrop.
We love meeting other travellers, and so enjoy sharing our home in this special part of the world with our guests. Our aim is to make your stay with us a truly memorable experience and to help you make the most of your time here.
Tongariro Crossing Lodge holds a 4+-star Qualmark grading in the Bed & Breakfast category and achieved a Qualmark Silver Sustainable Tourism Business Award.

We fell in love with this region having spent many family trips here exploring the magnificent mountains and landscape in and around the Tongariro National Park - from the Tongariro Alpine Crossing to the ski and snowboard trails on Mt Ruapehu, and the unforgettable Whanganui River Journey. We believe National Park Village is the best place to stay to enjoy the Tongariro National Park and the wider Ruapehu region - and is the natural gateway to Tongariro National Park and all of its wonders.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Marina and Louis provided the most amazing experience for my wife and I on our honeymoon. They really took care of us well. They knew everything about the Alpine crossing which really set us at ease upon arrival. The accommodations were spacious and clean, and they have a great patio/garden to unwind in with a drink at the end of the day. They even gave us a gift to celebrate our honeymoon and successful Tongariro Alpine Crossing. This place is great. If you're doing the crossing or coming to this region for any other reason, make sure to stay at the Tongariro Crossing Lodge!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was a great stop on our drive through New Zealand. The lodge is very cozy and welcoming. The rooms are located in buildings with shared kitchen areas where guests have the option to prepare their own meals or the owner will provide a continental or full breakfast. The rooms are very cozy with comfortable beds and a large bathroom with shower stall. We had a great breakfast after our overnight stay. We loved visiting with the owner and enjoying the area and the views.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a great and beautiful 8-hour walk. Lols. I went for the hike soooo prepared. It was really sunny when we started, but then started to get rainy as we climbed up the mountain and guess what was next... hail at the very top. It was a challenging walk but was a great family bonding. And plus we have met alot of new friends along the way...

The location is just perfect for going up the mountain. So many extras here that I wish I had the time and booked a longer stay! And the owners are just amazing! So helpful and friendly. Bang for buck, would be very hard to beat.
Room was large enough quite happy to sit and play cards, internet connected TV, great DVD collection, to whittle away the bad weather times.
Refurbished bathroom was light, and roomy. Unlike some places we've stayed in the area.

Spacious rooms with allocated parks! Easily accessible to all the things we wanted to do in the area. Marina and Louis are incredible hosts, they were kind to prep a continental breakfast for us the night before an early start for us, and the next day we enjoyed a cook breakfast overlooking the yard! Their homemade bread is a must try! They were really helpful with local area knowledge and had awesome recommendations. Thank you for a lovely stay! We’ll be back!
