β β β β β Hiking on a cloudy and windy day.
The guides (Akiro & Joe) were really good, had our safety in mind more than anything else. They do have gear loaning out before heading on to the hike - so if you forget something they will be able to help out (though not a guarantee).
Still, remember to brink water, a few layers of warm clothing (a raincoat/waterproof jacket) and some snacks. Lunch was provided for.
I attempted this on Thursday, 5 Dec 2019. The weather was not in favour. We made it to the south crater and a bit more to itβs edge before we had to turn back because of very strong wind. These things do happen so be prepared and keep an open mind. Will try again maybe in the winter season.

β β β β β They are vigilant about the weather. And they kindly assist participants even if they don't understand how to use crampon or ice axe. You can completely trust them and enjoy the scenic view during the crossing.

β β β β β Everyone that I met loved Tongariro Alpine Crossing and I also really want to do it but I didn't feel comfortable to do it on my own neither my fitness was as its best.
So I contacted Adrift to get some advice and check if it was feasible or not for me.
I have been reassured and took the option WINTER SPECIAL Tongariro Alpine Crossing Guided Hike,
It was perfect and felt safe all the way.
The 2 guides were perfect and provided really good guidance, had patience and gave pace to accomplish this amazing experience.
Will never forget it!

β β β β β Booked these guys for a hike over Tongaroriro Crossing. They got us over alive ?. Very hard winds at the top, but they really keep you safe. Good knowledge of the area and nature too.
As a reaction to the answer by Adrift: my remark about getting us over alive was of course tongue in cheek. There is never any danger going up the crossing with Adrift. If it isn't safe, the hike is cancelled. It really was a magnificent experience!

β β β β β My friend and I just completed the guided Tongariro Crossing during this winter season. I must say it was a spectacular experience with Adrift Tongariro! We had a small group of 3 hikers and were very lucky to be guided with Hiro AKA our 'hero.' His professionalism and passion as our guide was incredible (5000/100); he was knowledgeable, patient and friendly.
The crossing was definitely not easy to hike, especially being winter, but we felt supported and Hiro did a great job with adjusting the hike to our fitness ability and paced it out. At one point my friend and I were struggling, Hiro went above and beyond the call of duty, so we could climb up the steep hill.
We were also very lucky to have stunning weather and see breathtaking views. We'd definitely come back again with Adrift, a safe and memorable experience - will request for the awesome guide Hiro again! Thank you!

β β β β β Internet friends!
I'd love to share with you that we had an excellent climb Mt Ruapehu as a tight-knit group of friends with Stew Barclay, one of the instructors. It was just a super relaxed and feel-good time. Gorgeous views the whole way.
We'd like to thank the team at Adrift for their professionalism, good quality chats and story-telling as we all ascended and descended the mountain in the snow. Sliding down was pretty awesome too. I'm definitely coming up here with my brother and sister.
Enjoy our photos!
