★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Cool tower, made of interesting stone blocks with little shells. Climbing spiral stairs - 170 steps- is well worth the view overlooking Wanganui town and river, and can see Tasman sea in the distance.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ You have to have a certain level of fitness to climb the 176 steps to the top and if your wary of heights as I am, just slow down towards top. Circling up kinda makes you light headed lol. I had no problems one up there as there top if fully enclosed by a metal cage, for security and for people to attach their padlock too ? Awesome views over Wanganui region, would recommend on a good day ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you haven't taken the elevator to the war memorial tower then it is only a short ride up Dury hill to the tower. Great views of the river city. Take some mates, enjoy the views. Go for a $2 ride in the elevator and experience a slice of local history.

Can see right the way up the whanganui River, all over town and right the way out to the beach.
Can be good fun on a windy day, because you can see the river mouth and the waves breaking through.
Great photo opportunities at the top, just have to climb the hundreds of stairs to get there!
