Great 14ish mile hike, can be done in 4-5 hours if you're in decent shape and keep moving, but can still be done if you're not- just might take 7 hours. Great views as well

The whanganui river journey is epic. Once you get on the water you're in for a good workout for 3 days through some amazing scenery. We camped for both nights - decent facilities at both sites. A highlight at the Pa site, being welcomed onto the land with a ceremony was fun and interesting. Everyone we met was so lovely - guides and explorers. The rapids beat us up - falling out a couple of times, but you just float for a bit and get your stuff back together. In hindsight i feel we should of studied the rapids a bit more and had a better idea of which directions to choose - in particular the one with a canoe still wrapped around a rock in the middle (we took the wrong way and ended up going headfirst into the wall ??). We rented our canoe from Yeti travel, those guys were so nice - we arrived quite late into town and they put us up in a chalet for really reasonable price. If this review helped please leave a like ??

Beautiful patk, we did a great tour with Whanganui River Adventures that took us up the river to have lunch on the bridge to nowhere and then back down with a 2hr canoe included. Would definitely recommend!!!

I did a three day canoe trip down the river with almost no prior experience (have only kayaked before on a school trip). This was great fun but a lot of hard work. We had mostly sunny weather above 23 degrees most days and it did get quite hard working in that heat. Wear lots of sunscreen! The river was low when we went as there hadn't been much rain so the rapids were harder than normal and there were a lot more obstacles in the water. Aim to go after a rain. Please ensure your whole party can swim as a majority of people will get capsized going over the rapids (particularly the last two).

Did the 5 day Wanganui canoa trip. The national park has Great camping facilities, however better provision should be made for tying up canoes.

The three day canoe trip was amazing , easy paddling, lots to see and do. The abundant kowahi trees and tui's were a hit , especially enjoyed the dawn chorus. Tested out some new technology for next years Americas cup,.

Stunning Atene skyline track (can get very muddy after rain), the Whanganui river. (make sure to get a kayak and paddle down). Lots to do here with relatively little people. Pics from Atene Skyline track.
