Consider this review before booking at Aorangi Peak Holiday House unless you like asthma, lacerations, broken bones, burns, electrocution and possibly asbestosis. The drive to the facility is a windy sealed road. Once there and through the locked gate you'll drive over broken ground down a steep driveway to the house. At the front door you'll find dirty slippers and jandels to catch tinea from. Lovely. Once inside, you'll notice a damp musty smell and look around a holiday house that may once have been quite acceptable and pleasant but, now is very run down and less than good value accommodation. Outside on the deck you'll find missing handrails that offer your children broken bones and an empty spa pool half filled with concrete they can drown in. There's some very dangerous looking shelter with what looks to be non-compliant roofing and glass panels. It's like an incompetent handyman has been let to build the deck and gazebos. There's evidence of the roof blowing off one of them and plenty of sharp metal and broken glass for you or your children to cut yourselves on. In the room next to the lounge there's two single beds and a large water stain on the floor. Next to this is a bathroom with a step down shower. It offers poor privacy and its unclean. Upstairs, is two bedrooms, and like everywhere in this house there's dirty windows everywhere. If your lucky, you'll hear the possums living in the roof cavity at night and possibly get a nice dose of tuberculosis. The kitchen is equipped with the basics but dont expect to find and milk in the fridge because we found that it wasn't turned on let alone containing any milk. You get the poorest possible hot beverage range with powereed creamer. There's a friendly message in the kitchen threatening to charge your credit card if you dont leave it tidy. A really nice message once you're in the place and are starting to realise you just paid $460.00 per night for a lessons in hazard management. The hot water taps are almost all the wrong way around and the hot water is so hot that children cannot be let to use the taps without supervision. Be warned, it will burn you quickly! The fire fighting equipment does not comply by any stretch of the imagination and if you need to evacuate the building at night ensure you take a torch as it'll very likely you'll fall over hazardous building materials as you make your escape. I'm not sure if the roof is blue asbestos or not. There's definitely been work carried out on it recently to stop leaks. There's light switches and light fittings literally everywhere. It's almost like somebody has tried to break a record for the amount of light switches a building can take. This place was most likely once really awesome, perhaps with different owners. It's definitely been cheaply and almost comedically modeled to appeal to the Asian market. Whoever is maintaining this place needs to understand that there's a building and electrical code in New Zealand and by performing the sub-standard repairs that they are they're putting lives at risk and exposing themselves and the property owner to criminal charges for failing to comply. Quite why theres a laminated picture on the wall of a bunch of asians posing with Tom Cruise we'll never know. Is doesn't appear that he stayed here. The view is amazing but the place is damp and dangerous for some. I therefore do not recommend anyone stays there until its brought up to legal standard. Stay here at your own risk. We definitely wont be.

Think twice before booking this place! Firstly it is nothing like in the pictures. You have to drive through a building site in order to get to it, inside it is very neglected like an abandoned building, fire alarms and some lights do not work, there are possums living in the roof, i shall let the pictures tell you the rest! It is an awful shame as it has lots of potential, the only thing that is good are the views!
