★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I don't leave reviews very often but in this instance I had to make an exception. I've been travelling with my partner for 5 months so far and I can't think of any where else that has had the same level of hospitality. Maxine was by far and away the loveliest host I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. The atmosphere of the place is so laid back. The beds were lovely, the kitchen lovely and the lounge area a perfect place to unwind. Maxine diligently stoked the wood burning fire which made it a perfect place to come back. Very homely. If I'm lucky enough to return to this part of the world I shall certainly be looking to stay here. I really cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you Maxine for making it such an enjoyable experience.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ By far the best hostel in New Zealand! I had the most incredible time at Bob and Maxine's. Both Bob and Maxine are extremely kind, generous, inviting, and knowledgeable people. They helped me decide which hikes to do, companies to book activities with, and cities to visit. The hostel itself is the cleanest hostel I have stayed in. It has amazingly large (private!) bathrooms, a fireplace, a lot of couches and comfortable chairs (some even recline), and a great kitchen and dining area. The beds are comfortable, and the common area always felt warm and inviting. I extended my stay with them because it truly felt like home. The setting is also incredibly beautiful! Grab one of their free bikes and ride into town and see for yourself :) you won't regret it!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely place to stay. Lovely owners, wonderful lounge and showers that will take a 6fter which is a first for me in 17 years here! So sad to see such a huge place so empty. Hope borders open soon and you can be busy again. Will recommend to anyone passing through Te Anau. Cheers David

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Bob and Maxine are welcoming and lovely hosts. The place has comfortable beds in the backpacker dorms, 3 bathrooms, open kitchen/living area, refrigerators to store food, 2 stoves, and an oven although I didnt get a chance to use it. Reasonable use free washing and BBQ available :) They take great care making sure the place is exceptionally tidy and their kindness and interaction with each guest is so sweet. I stayed 4 nights when my intention was just for 1.

Kitchen has everything you need, bathrooms are good and fireplace chilling area is great. Bob and Maxine are some of the nicest people you will meet couldn’t recommend staying here higher. Thanks,
