★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Appointment schedule is somewhat oversubscribed. 20 mins into consultation the doctor said he was running behind, I had other questions, I'd waited a long time to get a suitable appointment date, but now I was being pressured to end the meeting. The consultation was rushed compared to visits with other ophthalmologists I've visited. When a consultation costs 167NZ it seems a bit much to penalise the patient for poor scheduling.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ $200 for a 20 minute consult that was 40 minutes late - first appointment of the day. What other choice do you have in Whangarei? The ladies at reception were the best part of the experience, keeping our 2 year old entertained, thank you!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Dr Brian Kent Smith did a cataract extraction & lens insertion on 12 January 2021 of my right eye on behalf of the Northland District Health Board. This operation went very well. My eye felt gritty just for a few days.
The next operation was due for my left eye. I asked the Whangarei Hospital if this could be done again by the same eye doctor. After the usual wait for a publicly funded service I got that operation done again by Dr Brian Kent Smith in his rooms at 19 Kamo Road several months later. This time the operation went perfect. No pain after the operation, no grittyness, perfect visibility.
If I ever need an ophthalmologist again I am sure where to go.
