β β β β β One of my favorite hostels in New Zealand. Owners are fantastic, and the vibe there was really nice. It was raining when I was there, but with great company and nice space I made the best of it. It was lively for dinner, and quiet at night. The garden and views were fantastic.

β β β β β We loved our stay there! It's cosy and Cornelius and Margo are very nice hosts! The cottage is beautifully located and Akaroa is just a 20min drive away. Great spot to explore Banks Peninsula.

β β β β β My wife and I had a wonderful time staying at Halfmoon following completion of the Banks Peninsula Track. Co and Margo were wonderful hosts, most accommodating, and engaging. Despite the shared bathroom area it was quiet and always clean. The kitchen amenities are great and cereals for breakfast were included. We hope our travels bring us back here at some future point. β β β β β Great, clean and laid-back place with great hosts, this is how it should be.
On arrival, Cornelius showed us everything and gave us helpful information for planning hikes around Akaroa. The place is very clean especially bathrooms and the kitchen and it has a very comfortable dining and living room with lots of travel guides, board games, music and movies to watch. If I am around again, I will definitely come back.

β β β β β The Halfmoon Cottage in Barrys Bay, 15 minutes before Akaroa is possibly the best shared accommodation in the South Island.
There is a very well appointed kitchen with every cooking utensil you could ever need, a large bathroom with 2 showers and 2 toilets, a dinning room with 2 tables (both seat up to 6) and an adjoining living room with plenty of comfortable seating.
The bedrooms are huge (for hostel style accommodation) and are very clean.
Up to 14 people could be here at any one time but we found this to add to the 'community feel' - it really is an awesome place to stay a night or 2.
Cornelius, the owner, is super nice and friendly and lives in a separate cottage. He has made the gardens something to really enjoy.
Halfmoon Cottage is a 15 minute drive from Akaroa and at least half the Akaroa price for accommodation. I love this place.

β β β β β Beautiful hostel in picturesque surroundings located in Barry's Bay near Akaroa. This classically restored villa is roomy and comfortable with a large kitchen and dinning area. The gardens surrounding the hostel are absolutely gorgeous. All the rooms are extremely tidy and clean. The hosts Cornelius and Margo are truly wonderful people, so froendly, engaging and helpful. This hostel is a true refuge from the busy lives we all lead. The surrounding area is also very interesting to explore. I highly recommend this place, it's awesome!!

β β β β β Cornelius and Margo were friendly and helpful hosts. Cottage and garden were delightful. Lots of places to chill... Super relaxing. Kitchen great to cook in. Comfortable bed in a lovely room. This accommodation far exceeded our expectations.

β β β β β Me and my wife stayed here in 2019 and we loved it every second. The hosts were extremely friendly, the cottage is great, charming and relaxing. As soon as new zealand opens travel for vaccinated tourists, we'll be coming back and stay a few days to relax!
Wholeheartedly recommending the cottage!
