★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We were looking for a place to eat for 6 people and didn't have a reservation. Other places were quite full and we decided to try this place since it was close to our accommodation and was a new restaurant.
We were lucky since they had a table that could squeeze us in and it wasn't too tight. The menu looked interesting and we decided to go for two courses, entree, and main. After ordering the place became quite busy. It took a while for the food to come out, about an hour for the entrees and half an hour for the mains. We were served two main which were for other tables so they were lucky we were waiting for everyone's dishes to be served before starting.
I had the duck broth as the entree and it was alright. The soft boiled egg became fried but it gave the soup and noodles a nice flavour. We didn't get a spoon for the broth though which was a bit inconvenient, so we ended up just slurping it from the bowl. I then had the baby back ribs as the main and it was really bland. The outer bits with the sauce were alright but the meaty bit just had no flavour. I also didn't get a hand washing bowl (which was given with the wrong order).
Service was friendly but there seemed to be a lack of training. We also had a loud table behind us who were noisy, which didn't help with the mood, tables from further away seemed to also get annoyed at them. It was a bit of a mixed bag but this is their first year running so they should hopefully get better.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great service, delicious food and nice atmosphere. Make sure you try the Garlic bread entree, delicious. Absolutely love the outdoor area, especially in winter too! Try this spot for dinner when in Ohakune ?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Waiters friendly, pleasant dining experience. The porterhouse was bit overcooked , however the seafood chowder was very great. Pita bread with chowder was unusual .
Now good wine menu is there. $20 main apply to simple dishes worth trying but prices do not match the value for money.

I should of got more garlic prawns!
The lamb and beef cheeks were melting!!!
Even now I cant stop thinking about it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Underwhelming sums up my experience. The portions were on the smaller side AND all the food was just okay. Ribs were just a tad chewy, seafood chowder felt a tad cheap, confit chicken was okay, as was the fry bread. As I was getting full I didn't feel the usual pull to try finish food.

Wait staff was wonderful....wish I got her name so I could mention her here.
Unfortunately didn't get many photos...was too busy enjoying the meal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ An unforgettably superb dining experience on 17 July at Ohakune. Our waitress Maria was very pleasant and friendly, the Duty Manager Tamara too! We ordered the lamb shoulder for 2 and was served a feast. The lamb was tender and hashbrowns which looked like made inhouse were scrumptious. For dessert we shared the fudge brownie served with ice-cream, biscotti, whipped cream, raspberries and berry coulis. Excellent service. Food was amazing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fabulous food and service! I am a vegetarian and tried out the eggplant parmigiana wow! Unreal! So crispy and delicious. We only got photos of the starter because our mains were so delicious and we forgot to take photos!
The service is good and everyone is so friendly and inviting! The outside ambience is top tier! Great place to dine in Ohakune!
