★ ★ ★ ★ ★ What an ideal location for a hut, with so many things to see within a few hundred meters. The hut itself is quite comfortable according to the Kiwi standard for comfort, which is not the European or American one. In other words, this is a Hut and not an Inn. Big dormitory upstairs with several individual beds and a long continuous bedding zone. Awesome views, weather permitting, of the Darran Mountains beyond the Hollyford valley.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Can only assume the good reviews are from people who arrived in good weather. You find out how good an accommodation is if you arrive totally drenched and cold. We left the next day totally drenched and cold. Utterly inadequate for alpine conditions. Needs replacing with something insulated and dry (vapour barrier to the building envelope).
Done all but one of the Great Walks and this was our worst experience

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A phenomenal stop on Routeburn track. Both the lodge and camping site have all the necessary amenities, such as clean bathrooms, dining tables benches and sinks with fresh water. And let's not forget an amazing lake (albeit very fresh!) that one can plunge into and then dry under the afternoon sun on the meadow.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ World Class.. Worth the 12kms walk in from Main Divide Milford Road.. choose a dry sunny day.. Stay the night.. or two... Hut Passes or payment needed in busy season Oct to End of April.... Or walk thru over 2 nights ROUTEBURN TRACK is a top world class track....
