β β β β β Secluded, well-appointed self-contained unit just North of Punakaiki. A magical location amongst the tree ferns.

β β β β β Great place with great location in Punakaiki. Unfortunatally weather was not so nice during our stay - it rained constantly. Luckily our room had wifi and good music system and tv, so we were entertained. Good walking / hiking options nearby. Would love to come again on a sunny day.

β β β β β An awesome place situated amongst the trees. Private and modern. And I would suggest during summer it would be perfect. But on a cold wet west coast day, this place is not that warm. Heat pump barely makes a dent. And not as private as some of the advertising suggests.
I would still recommend it though.

β β β β β We liked the privacy of our room, Nikau, with balcony in the Bush. Very nice and clean.
Must do the short track to the beach, awesome spot.
Good bed and shower too.
Only thing to consider is we heard the tv and conversations from next door.

β β β β β Avoid the "Miro" option. This is on the ground floor with the upstairs decks shading it on all sides. There is no natural light, and it is cold. The only heat source is a very noisy rattling wall-mounted fan heater. There is also no ventilation and while there is a dehumidifier, the power is off between guests (we were asked to turn off the master switch on departure). As a result, there is a fairly strong smell of mould. The owner asserts that this is "the smell of the bush", and "not mould", and that all the lodgings in the treehouse smell like that. So nothing to worry about, it seems. This denialism perhaps doesn't bode well for the other issues we pointed out being addressed. Indeed, despite indicating the absence of sufficient plates, cutlery, a tea towel and a bath mat on our first evening, these were not subsequently provided. This is a place that has the potential to be lovely (it IS in the bush, there's a track to the beach, and Punakaiki is a lovely spot), but it's being poorly managed. The people we spoke to were lovely, trusting and easy going, but there's definitely a lack of professional rigour being applied to the provision of accommodation. At $175/night, standards need to be higher. It's worth noting that we were able to charge our EV, got to give extra points for that. :)

β β β β β The lower rating is due to a strong damp smell in the unit. It is not too far from anywhere but Punakaiki is an area rather than a town. Everything worked. Be aware you may have stairs to get up with your luggage and there is noone to assist. Parking may get a bit tight. Highly recommend the Truman's walk mentioned in the information in the unit. Comfortable. Has a deck. Would likely stay again if ever go that way again.

β β β β β Tranquillity and amazing customer service. I stayed in Nikau the night before the Paparoa and was able to fully prep my food and gear. Lots of space and really nice people who run it.
