★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Warm beds and warm personalities, we will definitely be visiting Riverstone Backpackers next time we are in the area. Everything from the kitchen to the bathrooms were clean. The wood burning stove was a perfect touch to an already great experience. Don't miss out on this great place!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very friendly host, he made us feel welcome. Room was enough for us, double bed with bunks although top bunk was squeaky. Kitchen workable but got full very quickly. Nice outdoor area. Very close to town with supermarket. Excellent for those wanting to do the Tongariro crossing.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We stayed two days at Riverstone Backpackers. The new owners (Sandra and Duncan) had just taken over the place the day we arrived, and they were extremely helpful! The place is spotless, comfortable and with a homely feel. The kitchen very convenient and the outdoor area/living room great for hanging out. We were a family of five and stayed in a room with a queen and bunk bed which was perfect. Sandra and Duncan were extremely helpful and could guide us to where to eat, mountain bike and more. They had a few mountain bikes that we got really cheap, and we went for a day trip on the Tongariro River Trail. Perfect for beginners.
If you are looking for something comfortable, clean and friendly with that homely backpacker/family feel to it, Riverstone Backpackers is a great place.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Small, cosy, very clean and comfortable backpackers. Best kitchen/lounge ever and spacious bathrooms. Would've given it 5 stars except for the continual need to use a code to come & go. There is no reception & on arrival notices tell you to phone to get a code to enter. A person locked themselves out and knocked on my window to get back in, lucky I was awake. It did feel a bit like a prison bcos of the code thing other than that, you'll not regret staying there.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Loved it of course I was very sceptical from outside looking in once I entered the building it had a very warm cosy feeling one of the guests let me in and gave me my room key he showed me around I was not very forthcoming as I had been on the road for 9 hours so was very tired,it is a lovely place,my room was very very lovely just what I needed an ensuite just topped it all off..
Sandra the Hostess was wonderful we never got to meet face to face as I was due to meet my team at 7am I arrived in Turangi at 8pm and it was very nippy I rang Sandra on my way through that morning and again that afternoon to reconfirm she had turned the heater on in my room as it was very cold she told me, hence the reason my room was very nice and warm overall lovely stay..

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really enjoyed our one night stay. Facilities were clean and extensive. Free wifi and friendly backpacker cat. Walls are thin so you’ll hear early risers heading off for a fish. Warm beds with heating in rooms. Would return! Thank you

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Really enjoyed our stay here. Sandra the host is very friendly and helpful. Chilled out vibe. Extremely clean and tidy. Kitchen is so well decked out. Very handy to Turangi shops. Was a great base for us to do the Tongariro Crossing. We'll come back in the winter for sure!
