★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If only we had more time to have stayed longer! The lodge itself is well kept, inviting, and very cozy! Jason and Rebeca are very hands on and accomodating; they want you to have the most amazing stay and experience as much of the area as possible. They helped us organise our trip for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing with the Tongariro Guided Walks and we could not have had a better experience! Jason was in touch with TGW to make sure we would have great weather and they chose well. It was the highlight of our trip! On the other days, Jason and Rebeca suggested various other activities such as a day trip to Napier, vineyards, and Taupo. With long days in our agenda, River Birches was a great spot to call home for a few days and rest up. Thank you for an amazing stay!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Can't recommend this spot enough. We stayed in the private cottage, which was clean, cozy and beautifully designed (and hey heated bathroom floors!). Jason was just lovely, providing great local recommendations and even organizing a delicious, fresh multi-course meal for our family on the lodge property. Very memorable stay for us, many thanks!

Gave us a free upgrade and bottle of wine when they found out it was our honeymoon and made sure we had all the gear and food we would need for the Alpine Crossing, including organizing a shuttle for us. Delightful food cooked by a private chef. Can't recommend highly enough. Thanks guys.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our favorite accommodation in NZ! Not just because of the location, but the service, attention to detail, and kindness of our hosts/the owners!
We stayed at River Birches for Christmas to complete the Tongariro Crossing. The hosts were so kind and upgraded our room which was so appreciated and so amazing! We loved every second of staying at this amazing location. All the recommended restaurants were amazing. They truly went out above and beyond to ensure our stay and experience was memorable. They even invited us to share Christmas with their family. This was so special.
River Birches truly took luxury accommodation to the next level and highly recommend anyone to stay here!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stayed here with my whole family for the Easter weekend (on the Cottage) and without a doubt, this is one of the best accomodations in New Zealand. It was well equipped with everything you ever need and the facilities were very well maintained. We also had the best hosts with Jason and Rebecca, and they are both very attentive and helpful. We had a lot of fun staying in the cottage (there was lots of things to do!) as well as our walks along the Tongariro River. If you want to just relax and unwind this is the best place to stay.

From the entry and welcome, Rebecca & Jason are thoughtful hosts who absolutely understand comfort and privacy.
They have created a stunning property with beautiful furnishings which allow you to truly enjoy & relax in the spaces around the lodge. The fantastic location-super close to the river walkway and fly fishing spots is brilliant. The chefs table did not disappoint with some clever pairings and very enjoyable menus. Breakfast is generous with various options setting you up for a perfect day.
