Very friendly staff and nice rooms. The kitchen certainly needed an upgrade compared to some hostels I've been to. The location is great and overall I would recommend it to another backpacker. Free wifi was a huge plus... would've given five stars if the kitchen had some new cookware.

The best thing about this place is the amazing views from the balcony area. Lots of rooms for sleeping and the kitchen is large and well equiped. However, the kitchen and common room shuts very early, so there are no places to hang out in the evening other than the dorm rooms. Quite pricey for what it is too.

The hostel itself was nice and well located with heaps of parking available which is fab (ok the street outside). Unfortunately someone has put 3 large thick wooden slabs, nailed to the beds, the one on the middle of the bed kept digging into my side and hurt my hip (I’m only 27) all night long. The mattress is weird and you just kinda sunk into it. Also nights sleep was completely ruined by people getting up at 4am, riddling their bags, slamming the doors repeatedly to go to the crossing. The guests were just so disrespectful to other people trying to sleep. There’s no need to be that loud and have the courtesy to get what you need ready the night before so you don’t have to unpack and repack your entire bag whilst other people are trying to sleep! Showers and toilets were clean, didn’t use the common area or kitchen as only stayed for 1 night. The female only dorm has a lot of room. More than enough for 6 girls and all their luggage which is a plus! The receptionist was great too, had some great food recommendations.

Really nice hostel! We stayed here twice. Big bright kitchen, gets busy but still spacious, with multiple stove-tops and ovens. Lots of people leave free food which is awesome for backpackers. Common area is big and cozy, with lots of power points. Nice little outdoor deck area too! Good amount of showers and toilets. Beds are reasonably comfy but can be hit or miss. Definitely affordable, and it's part of the TBG hostel chain so if you've been to a TBG hostel bring your card from there for 10% off (when you book directly). Also shout-out to staff member Blaire for being a legend, she helped us out a couple times and was generally lovely. We'd definitely recommend this place!

We got the family room for myself and my colleague. Very spacious with a kitchenette, private garden area, bunk bed and double bed. The room has large windows and a heater for the cold nights. The lodge is right next to the town and the lake shore. Lovely common room and a well equipped communal kitchen. Bathrooms and lodge were very clean, well organized and tidy The manager was really friendly, helpful and nice, but most importantly she was relaxed and made us feel welcome. We have been staying in this class of hotel on or trip and this is by far the best! Criticisms? Well a pool table would have been nice..

The hostel amenities were all right but the hours/set-up were rather inconvenient - their kitchen closed at 10 pm and their breakfast didn't start until 8 am, past when we wanted to be out the door for a hike. These hours were also likely contributing factors to why the hostel felt so dead and unsocial in the evening. The second day when we got breakfast we realized that we didn't miss much - you have to get bowls/plates from upstairs then come downstairs to pick up bread and cereal. Another inconvenience was that the locked storage was located outside the rooms. Otherwise, the rooms were relatively clean and quiet.

Decent hostel. We had the private room which was spacious. Bed were comfortable with a small balcony. Parking available. There is also some sort of breakfast which is a nice extra but dont book this hostel for the breakfast. Shower and bathroom alright. Room was not very clean.

Clean rooms and within walking distance to taupo lake front and cbd! The kitchen and lounge set up is great also TOP TIP before you go grocery shopping have a look if there is salt and pepper there already as there are "free food" shelves . The kitchens have all the utensils pots and pans that you need. Awesome stay will come again
