About Tower

Brrrrrr … does it sometimes feel like your home’s colder inside than it is outside? The reality is, many Kiwi homes are far from being warm and cosy in the cooler months. Sure, we don’t get the temperature extremes other countries experience, but it does get chilly, and our homes can be really cold and damp.

It’s not fun, or healthy, so we’ve put together a few tips to keep your family warm and dry this winter.

Insulate

We spend a lot of money in winter warming up our homes, but insulation is often overlooked. Heat rises, so your roof is the best place to start with insulation, but you should also consider:

  • Flooring - dampness can enter from under your house, and heat can escape down there too. Insulating under your house will keep your home warmer and drier. If you have wooden floorboards, consider adding a rug for extra warmth.
  • Walls - it’s often harder to insulate the walls of an existing home, but it’s worth checking if yours are insulated. If not, consider adding it to the to-do list for any future renovations.

Hot water cylinder

Heating your water is one of the biggest expenses so make sure you trap the warmth in your cylinder. You can buy wraps at most hardware stores.

Windows

Heat loves to escape through windows, but it’s easy to reduce how much gets through:

  • Curtains - get them nice and thick, and close them when the sun starts to set. The idea is that the sun streams in during the day, and then you trap the warmth in. ‘Thermal curtains’ are the best at keeping heat in.
  • Seal any gaps - some older homes might have a gap between the window and its frame. You can buy tape and fillers at hardware stores to seal those gaps.
  • Double glaze - not only will this reduce outside noise, it’ll keep your home warmer. As this option can be hard on the wallet, a window film may be a more cost effective insulation option.

Heat

You might find once you’ve stopped heat escaping, you still need more to make your home comfortable and warm. The type of heating you use will depend on the size of the area you want to heat, the running cost and its impact on the environment.

Gen Less have put together a great pros and cons list of the different types of heating options – be sure to check it out.

Still not sure which heater you need? Whichever option you choose, remember to be fire wise:

  • Use a screen on open fires (and never leave them unattended).
  • Don’t hang clothes on or near your heater.
  • Don’t overload your powerpoints or multiboards.

The great thing about these tips is putting them into practice won’t just make your home warmer in winter, it’ll make for more comfortable living all year round.

Tower is the most terrible ? insurance company, they took long time to answer the calls, they often don’t answer the calls, they ask unnecessarily questions from customer to make them angry ? They have unprofessional staff members, it’s been a more than a month still I am waiting for my claim to approved. Somebody hit my car that was his fault, in this situation tower insurance asking me stupid questions. Please Don’t waste your precious time and money on tower insurance. I had really really bad experience completely disappointed ☹️

Very easy to use website and great service too. A bit hard to get them on phone but chat, email etc works very well. We have been with tower for 20+ years and pretty happy with service, rates, claims etc.

There are much better insurers out there. They will take your money and run. When you make a claim they will treat you like you did the damage and use any excuse to not pay out.

Its been 2 months that i put review about this company in the hope that they will take some action and will help their customer. But unfortunately they do not care about their customer and only help you get from them is we will get back to you asap but will get no result. This company is not even worth to have zero star.I have content and 2 cars insurance from this company and to get the policy from this company was my biggest mistake. Have a ongoing claim with them from last 8 months and every time you try to contact them , you will get no reply from them. Try to email them, live chat but always say give us a call our claim team cannot email you or come on live chat. And the staff (SOPHIA) leave the live chat in the middle and ask me to wait for 2-5 working days to have the call from their team. Tried to contact my case manager (Rachel Preece) but no luck either, when asked for the phone call history record from this company so that I have all the record as I need evidence for tribunal but get no reply from them. Mentioned them I want all the conversations with them only via email for evidence but then got email from this company that I have to talk to them on phone calls only but they said if I do not comply with them as per them then they will decline the claim. THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU GET INSURANCE FROM THIS COMPNAY.

When we are starting the policy, they won’t ask any tricky questions . But while claiming they are asking tricky questions and decline the policy . Really am struggling a lot . Can you please give me any suggestions how to Claim my policy . From last two weeks am mentally disturbed because off these tower insurance. I won’t recommend to anyone.

Been with Tower for a number of years for contents and car insurance, very responsive and have been quite happy this year I have downsized so look at my insured amount for contents when I contacted to advise I was getting cheaper quotes from other companies the response I got was I have cancelled your renewal, you have already decided to change, I hadn't and thank you for your loyalty clearly they have no loyalty. Worst experience from any company when questioning a quote. Perhaps I could have worded my second email differently but after no respose to my first email I was annoyed. I'm clearly too small for them to care. I think the annoying bit is if I was a new customer I would have a much cheaper qoute

Very impressed with these guys. We've slowly moved all our insurances over to them, and they've always provided impeccable service and competitive prices. But we recently had to make a claim for a small accident that happened to one of our vehicles, and I've gotta say they really did a great job. Without going into detail, they didn't just chase up what was best for them, but did the right thing by us and the other party. Thank you Tower, great job ?.

Hands down the best insurance company I had, and I tried a few of them. Initially, I signed up with Tower because of their innovative app, but I was blown away by their awesome customer service. Recently I was involved in a car accident and their communication and service was amazing. Sandy, the claims agent, was always prompt to answer calls, emails, and was also actively following up to make sure that the repair was performed. I'd recommend Tower to anyon. You won't regret.
