About Two Mile Bay Sailing Club
Established December 1989 by Tony and Alexandra Landl. Back then the business consisted of a few yachts and a couple of hobbie cats and was a complete seasonal sailing hire business operating in the summer months on Lake Taupo. Due to customer demand, natural growth and sustainability we were finally able to build a proper building in 2000 and look to diversify into coffee and basic prepackaged food. From there it was obvious what the majority of our customers request were and this was to buy a beer or wine. After a lot of effort and time Tony secured a liquor licence for the the Two Mile Bay Sailing Club in 2006. The initial liquor licence allowed us to serve alcohol between the hours of 12pm-2pm. The fact that we secured this initial licence was ground breaking. From this point on we extended our licensed hours from 8am-6pm over the summer months and winter months which allowed us to operate the business year round.
2009 saw Tonys two sons Torben and Jan set the bar up properly and drive this side of the business. In 2012 we increased our licensed hours to 8am-10pm 7 days a week, created the ability to have special events that ran until 1am and added a wood fired pizza oven. Up until 2016 we had a lease with the Taupo district council. However a change of ownsership and the land being handed back to Ngāti Tūwharetoa we were able to secure a long term lease agreement with The Tūwharetoa Maori Trust Board. Due to our long standing relationship and support from them the site size was increased.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Be aware that the bagels and toasted sandwiches aren’t served past a certain time, leaving only pizza, which they refuse to serve without any tomato citing the oven is too hot. Had many other wood fired places do it no problems, they just add more oil on top of the base. We’d take all our guests here but since I’m allergic to tomato we don’t.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Lovely setting, great food when I got it, but to start off they got my order wrong. I am coeliac - not a pretend gluten free drama princess - my friend who ordered, and she knows food, doubled checked. they could have killed me, could have had a dramatic ambulance scene with me in the starring role, thank God Marie loves me, and I love her and Chris and Harry to bits. Mate tell your night staff they need to listen better when patrons are ordering. And or turn the music down or move the speaker away from the ordering area so your staff can hear customers.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice ambience in a laid back manner. Not pretentious at all, very relaxing. We ordered pizzas which were ready in about 15 minutes and very tasty.
Lots of choices where to sit, inside or out, in the sun or shade. I'm sure that if we lived in Taupo, this would be a regular spot for a drink and meal.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A mainly pizza and toastie eatery at a superb location right on the lake edge. We went there on a horribly rainy day, but it was so welcoming and warm inside. Friendly, chatty staff and food was really tasty..
We were able to bring our dog inside ("We're dog friendly throughout..") so bonus points for that, and ours was one of 3 there at the time. We will definitely be back in sunnier weather to enjoy the stunning views better! ??

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Came for the pizza, stayed for the views. Absolutely grand to have wood oven fire thin crusted pizza. I enjoyed my authentic pepperoni with fresh Parmesan cheese on top and also the Smoked Chicky Pizza abs of course, a gin lemon lime bitters. Absolutely perfect, warm and welcoming atmosphere as well as an amazing view and amazing vibe. Can’t wait to come again and experience the live music!
