I felt unsafe! First thing first, your room will look nothing like the pictures. We thought we’d have a window or something….our ‘window’ was looking at the lowered ceiling wires and drains. Your key, unlocks everyone else door as well. We got in our room, had a wee look around and noticed that the bedsheets had been changed and that was about it. We sat down had a laugh at all the reviews about this place with a glass of wine when a lady barged through our door! She quickly apologised and went to her own room after the brisk confusion. At night I recommend you barricading your door with the bookshelf so you don’t get any unwanted visitors. When we arrived the receptionist was empty apart from a note saying be back at 5. Lucky for us we only had to wait 10 minutes. The reception looks like it’s part of an abandoned building. A lot of chaotic things. When the receptionist came down she was rude. No greetings what so ever just waiting and standing until one of realised she wanted us to move a bag so she could open the table flap to get in. She then kept it short and simple without any manners. I assume she has no customer service skills. This “hotel” is a bloody maze. You get assigned block letters with a room number. Just like prison!! We thought we’d be at the start of the hall being block ‘A’ but no. The alphabet starts in the middle and ‘A’ is shortly after ‘P’. The cleanliness of this place is a 1/10. The fridge was filthy. There was this lingering fish and curry smell which was unpleasant. The bathroom had mould in the silicone. The dust on the floor was crazy. Don’t wear bare feet! If you are looking for emergency accommodation, this place may be okay? Kind of affordable. We paid $400 for 2 nights for a 1 star hotel. In Queenstown I paid the same $400 for two night at a 4 star hotel. Really does say something…..

DO NOT BOOK A STAY HERE. Horrible customer service. Dirty rooms and they suddenly slip an additional 1.9% surcharge for using your eftpos/debit card even though their terms and conditions only mention the surcharge for credit cards. They won’t take accountability. Better to pay more than stay here. Just look at all the other reviews. Oh and the manager just don’t care. Don’t expect her to help.

You get what you pay for here. Cheap rooms equals cheap quality. No air con or windows. A fan that went now and then. Lamps that turned off and on. Staff on reception less then helpful or accommodating

Giving 3 stars, two for the location. The location is great and it was easy to get around. only downside is the customer service. Some staff (and I mean a handful) were amazing not just to myself but to others as well. While the majority, were.. well, it seemed like they needed a day off. It would also be good if reception staff were trained on what the disclaimers are for the hotel, cause I found that the information from reception staff doesn't match what is said on the website (a website hosted by wellingtonNZ) but then again, it's possible they haven't updated the website. As someone who travels a lot for work, it was a no brainer to book at Aura Hotel (Technically it's a hostel but... ) as the location worked in well for me for work. However, it's sad that whom ever owns this hotel isn't taking advantage of the fact that it's in a great location. Not only that but the hotel needs a massive overhaul (obviously with lockdown etc it be hard to have the funds for it) it has the potential to be better then the other 5 star hotels.

The location is great, that's about it. The room had no windows. It was upstairs in a communal office/building and the atmosphere of this was extremely uneasy and made us feel unsafe. The room was dirty with stains on the sheets and pillows, food on the floor, graffiti and holes on the wall. The room had an overwhelming bleach smell. So bad we stayed at another place last minute!

Great room and service. I was a bit worried about previous reviews. But I am extremely happy. Dee was very kind and helpful when I checked in. Best customer service. My private room is excellent. Nice bed. Great tv. Nice bathroom. Everything supplied for bathroom and tea coffee and milk. Price was great for centre of town. No bad smells. Very clean. Fan in room. No window but I don’t need one as everything else is perfect.

Do NOT stay here. A family members friends booked to stay there - they lost their room key which is their fault - but staff refused to help provide a new room key leaving two women on the street on a Saturday night. When they were finally allowed in their room the next morning - which was an absolute nightmare to get sorted - they found stuff had been stolen from their room which is being sorted by the police. Lazy staff who couldn't be bothered helping two women feel safe in the city.

Booked through booking.com and had a booking confirmation for a 3 day stay a month in advance. Arrived to be told my room wasn’t available, despite the confirmation. They said I could stay there one night, which I took up as trying to find a last minute booking was very difficult. The “twin room” I ended up staying in was next door to other peoples rooms (which wasn’t shown in the advertisement). Walls were very thin and could hear people constantly talking all night. Other people on the floor were smoking weed and cigarettes and the smell would come into my room. The windows didn’t seem to shut properly and it was very cold and noisy. The staff were very unapologetic, in fact they weren’t even attending the counter when we arrived and we had to wait for some service. I would have no idea what you’d do here if you arrived in the middle of the night as they lock all the doors electronically and then the actual hotel is a few floors up. Overall, absolutely awful experience. One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. You’d be better off paying a little more and getting something less of a headache.
