★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A short walk with some fantastic views. The lake is very pretty and a very short turn off the main track (about 30m). We went up in November so it was very quiet - we only saw two other small groups going up. It's one of the easier walks that we did but it is still a mountain so the gradient is always on an incline and parts of it are quite steep for your average walker. I don't remember any toilets on this walk.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Absolutely love the walk to the top of the mountain. Beautiful view from the top but it is a hard up hill track. Down side is cars do get broken into alot in the car park so dont leave any valuables behind.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This walk is gorgeous and only about a 20 minute drive out of Rotorua. Although the DOC website says it's about 1.5 hours to the summit, we were able to make it to the summit in about an hour (and I'm super unfit too!)
There are great views of the crater lake not far from the entrance and beautiful views of the surrounding area from the summit. The walk itself is a gentle steady incline until the last 10 minutes or so when it gets a little steeper.
My only concern about the walk would be trying to do it following rain - some parts of the track are clay and would potentially be slippery on a wet day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good track to summit, 1 - 1.5 hrs. A few parts would be slippery in wet weather. Enjoyed a soak in a nearby hot stream afterwards

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Great spot for a short hike to view the brightly colored pool. A longer and fairly step hike to the top is rewarded with excellent views.

The views are amazing over the Rotorua lakes and Mt Tarawera and all the way down to Tongariro National Park on a clear day
And if you want a hard-core Mtb challenge both uphill and down come test yourself here
You will not be disappointed
And a swim at kerosene creek to finish off

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Good tracks , good to be able to walk off Christmas feasts with this pearler of a relatively by and large well maintained path. I never saw a mountain bike rider today but obvious signs that a straight edge down hill rider could enjoy Rainow mountain. Its Stunning with amazing views. Give it a go . Good walk for good life.
