β β β β β We have rented a car from christchurch to queenstown and we received an invoice with an undue charge for a "neverlost replacement fee" of 174 NZD even if we had returned the GPS machine to the desk in the airport. Probably the person who inspected the car before issuing the invoice did not speak with his colleagues at the desk.
So, always wait in front of them the issuing of the invoice in order to avoid bad surprises later.

β β β β β Staff was friendly, but at least half the people I interacted with told me things which, whether through incompetence or malice, turned out to be blatantly untrue. Hertz website agreed to rent me a class of vehicle (sedan) that the local office no longer carries. Local office's solution was to "upgrade" me to a class of vehicle I did not want. After returning the vehicle and switching to a different company I was then double-charged for the day I had it, in direct contravention to what at least one team member said would happen. Terrible experience and would not rent from this Hertz location again.

β β β β β Hired a vehicle for two days. Car was clean and spacious. The lady at the counter was very helpful. She even walked us to the pick up point. Highly recommended.

β β β β β Never again! Sorry to say, but this is a dishonest business. We agreed (and it was put on our rental agreement) to fill up the car before returning it. We did this... and received an invoice which charged $80 for filling up the car. When we inquired about it they said we had not filled it up. Of course we disputed this and gave them a copy of our credit card statement with the BP transaction which they refused to accept because the date didn't match the date we returned the car (uh, DUH, this is what happens with international transaction... are these people even in the travel industry?)
I even told their staff that they are the only car hire company we have ever come across in the whole world to NOT have a person receiving returning cars and checking them for scratches, dings or petrol status.
So either someone had an expensive joy ride in the car after we left it in the lot, or a staff member pocketed $80 and lied. They didn't even have the decency to reply to our last email.
I wouldn't even give this one star. Handled poorly and essentially calling your customers liars even after we provided credit card proof is just an absolute NO in our books. Dishonest.

Things are very different to renting in Europe with no one on return to check the car but that seemed to be a standard practice in Queenstown with this being a small location but totally trusted them. Great Car, Friendly staff, very helpful and seemed very knowledgeable.
Would 100% rent with them again and would highly recommend to friends and family.
Keep up the good work!

β β β β β Never thought I'd be reviewing a car place.
The actual process was OK. It was pretty simple (the Hertz Gold checkin seemed perfunctory), and the car was solid.
The reason I am reviewing it months later is that I lost my watch on this trip. I had no clue where it was. MONTHS after they contacted me, saying they found watch around the time of my return and if it was mine.
After I provided details to confirm that it indeed was mine, they went through a lot of effort to get it back to me.
This is not normal. And that's too bad.
So for the well-above-expected service, Hertz earns their 5/5 for this.

β β β β β I had an unfortunate accident. A Hertz customer parked beside me and a wind gust smashed my car door on the side of theirs. My car rental company was dealing with them for the incident. Hertz tried to charge me for other damages not caused by me. They even sent a debt collector to threaten me!!!
My car rental company advised me not to pay until they resolved the issue directly.
Stay away from these people!!!!!

β β β β β Fully disappointed. This should not deserve a single star. For better safety, we added all insurance including roadside assistance and additional driver charges and all.
But the roadside assistance number did not work and was not reachable at all when our vehicle was broke down. Had to contact the customer service number from Google and hold the line for ages for different delays and finally ended up with visiting the branch physically (by an Uber with another cost) while all the others had to wait in the broken vehicle with four toddlers.
There was no direct connection with roadside assistance people and the Hertz for arrangements, it took 1 and half hour to roadside assistance to reach us without a clue from Hertz.
Meanwhile, Hertz Queenstown branch directed our ones who went there to the Airport branch since we picked the vehicle from an Airport (Christchurch) Branch (they donβt have a networked system for any emergency, so make sure to travel the places around a related branch that you picked the vehicle :-)).
Airport branch wanted to vacate the vehicle to let the roadside assistance to tow away the vehicle and want us to wait roadside with four toddlers and all the baggage while they complete all the arrangements to send a new vehicle. Their only reason for that is βit is only 6 minutes away from the airport branchβ. Ok fine, but I wonder what would be the reason for a same incident if it would happen far away from the branch, How funny. And they wanted our people to present physically at their branch to arrange another vehicle, so if this would happen in a place we visited far away from the branch we have to take another cab service or maybe a domestic flight (who knows) to reach the branch and arrange another vehicle.
Totally not recommended.
